This agitator was designed to work in the tall, narrow tub with a short, quick stroke agitation. It did a decent job, turning things over, however, the dual action agitator that replaced it did a much better job, turning things over, which helped reduce the lining complaints that these original DD machines suffered from.
When people complained of the Linting and streaking with these early direct drive spin drain machines whirlpool gave us a Blue dual action agitator that we could put in as a service replacement under warranty, even though they weren’t allowed to include a dual action agitator in their production machines because Sears had exclusive rights to it for 10 years. But I guess there was no stopping them from giving it away as a service item. Hi Paul, we have this agitator in the original 1981 whirlpool that we restored for the museum. I’m not sure if I have any extras around or not. I’ll try to remember to take a look. John L |
