Well, it looks like last week’s film fizzled, so how about a crossover: classic television -and- Maytag. We’ve got a clip from the Today Show with Dave Garroway and Fred II touting Maytag’s automatic with Gyrafoam action. This was a kinescope print but transferred pretty well.

"Kitchen Ideas for 1957 - Frigidaire Sheer Look?  In what way?  YT doesn't always timely-update view counts but it currently has the 2nd highest.

Great video, I can imagine many women watching this on Tuesday, March 2  pining for an automatic washer after spending most of Monday doing the family wash.

Thanks for doing these videos, Cory.

Very interesting seeing the Today show in 1954 and those humongous microphones they had to wear lol.

You can tell it was a bright red AMP agitator they were showing and the shine was amazing to see it brand new like that.

Thanks guys, I'm having a lot of fun scanning these!

Reply #3: Fizzled, only in terms of a conversation starter here at AW, though I did spam the link on a few FB groups this time which might account for views.

I'll admit, it wasn't very laundry-centric, but I did learn something. I never realized the lower rack automatically extended on the '57 french-door ovens. Swestoyz informed me that was dropped for '58+.

But, I've got something special in the works for next week that's sure to get tongues wagging around here!

Thanks, Cory. Reminds me of a joke from the time:
What do Maytag and the Soviet Union have in common? Millions of red agitators.

Maytag!

Now, if only we saw one in action...

Fred Maytag was more of a caretaker than any real innovative head of the company. He looked like a doofus. Maytag coasted on its wringer washer reputation for far too long. The "new generation" Maytags were almost a decade late in being introduced and most of that is because of the lid switch which prevented users from seeing the action which most assumed was like in the Maytag wringer washers.

Honestly I don't know what's wrong with the wash action in Maytag automatics.

I think they wash great and really move the load around, especially in standard tubs

Of course not like the wringers because they had bigger wider tubs for clothes to freely move around.

I have dozens of videos of my Maytags on YouTube, since they were loaded properly, plenty of turnover.
