I finally brought this from home. I had a teachers guide titled "Enterprise is America!" Competition and Productivity: An Economics for Young Americans education program. I've had this for quite a long time simply because it uses washing machines as a teaching tool. There are several ads prior to the 3 I'm posting of mostly wringer washers but here are the 3 automatic washers - all Kenmores. Hope you enjoy them.

Notice the 1970 LK is less expensive thatn the 1960 LK and in 1960 dollars, that was still a lot more too

The 1950 one is really interesting to me-a year before I was born!

Interesting stuff! I love that 1960 Lady Kenmore set. The claim that it had the world's first automatic prewash isn't true though, the older European frontloaders alreay had that.

Greg, that 1960 LK has me going, too. I didn't realize it had an automatic pre-wash cycle. Our Model 80 (which I believe was one model down from the LK) didn't have that or the auto detergent dispenser.

Great! Thanks for posting those.

The 1960 Lady. Probably the most complicated top-loader ever built. Rapid-Advance timer, dispensers for bleach, softener and liquid detergent. The softener and detergent dispensers were reseviors that stored the product in the machine and an air pump in the control panel activated to dispense them into the tub. I wonder if you wanted the suds-saver model if there was a training class to learn how to operate the machine, or you had to be married to a Sears repairman.

Steve, you're welcome, but I must admit that I am a bit stubborn when it comes to such claims. Fisher & Paykel can testify for that. LOL

Greg, thank you for posting that picture, it's an awesome set, I can only imagine how happy mrs Proud 1960 Lady Kenmore owner would be with this set. I bet she was the center of attention in the street for a whole week. How ingenious (and complicated) to use an airpump. I'd take the pank set ofcourse. And if he is handsome enough the Sears repairman too...

1950 Kenmore dryer

I have that 1950 kenmore dryer it has a date stamped on the back of the machine of 1952 it weights a ton, there is a lint basket on the back of the dryer so the machine is NOT outside vented how does that work ?? Are these water condensor dryers ? Mine also has a light inside the drum

Great scans! I wonder where all those 1960 LKs are? One is bound to turn up somewhere...

One reason I heard for the lack of 1960 TOL models was that there was an economic recession in full swing at the time and the average appliance shopper wasn't paying that much for a washer. This sounds very plausible except that other brands have been quite plentiful for collectors - the 1960 Frigidaire Custom Imperial (multi-tragic) is but one example.

Someday, my Lady will come ;-)

Wasn't this the LK with the auto (sensing) water level?
