Its spring cleaning time.

I have up for grabs an early 1960's Flat Front Westinghouse washer that needs some TLC.

Its the machine with the basket of parts sitting on top of it in white beside the Avocado Combo.

Jon must not be feeling so fresh! Giving away, selling or trading a frontloading Westinghouse? Hell must have frozen over!

Looks like hell has frozen over and he just let the World Wide Web into the Secret Storage Den....its gotta be a severe case of "Bendix Mania", only cure is a slap round the head with the new bendix boots on the way to him...LOl

I also think this is a very strategic picture, that tiny wheeny corner of that machine in top lhs, is designed to have us thinking its the "Missing Apex"..lol...could it be!!!

What swung the Bendix Mania syndrome for me is that he mentioned earlier that, "Bendix is the New Frigidaire"...!!! Robert any thoughts!!!

Cheers, Mike

Nice old Laundromat there at left front of the picture. I've got one of that vintage that's not in as good of shape that I'm looking to unload but it's buried under some other stuff so no pix are currently possible. I'll post something here when the time comes to dig it out.

Jon, Is that control panel really blue-green? Guys, this machine has a cast iron collar around the edge of the outer tub where the front is attached. The cast iron ring and the tub front in this model are very special because they have to allow for the door indentation. The circular iron tub ring really makes these machines much more stable than the models with the concrete chunks for weights. The tub does not bounce so much when it goes into spin. And, for those of you who will be impressed, Bendix used cast iron weights also.

That Westy looks a lot like one my family had...I think it was a 65 or 66, mid of the line with four wash/rinse temps and five later levels. Two cycle timer.

You are right Tom

I did see cast iron in there and it weighs a TON! It also has shock absorbers ,something I have NEVER seen on a Westinghouse machine before.

Shock absorbers?

roto204's profile picture
This one has more bounce to the ounce, too :-) Maybe by the early 60s Westies had them?

Hi Jon. My Westyslantfront has cast iron and springs in it.
Plenty of bounce when spinning.

We had one of these, but the control panel was in tan and gray, it seems. The 3rd rinse in the regular cycle had the word STARCH perpendicular to the 3. The timer had a neat way of advancing, very silently.

The slant front Laundromats with the vertical tub axis had 4 shocks and, combined with their width, were maybe the most stable Laundromats from a suspension and vibration-damping angle. The shocks were replaced in a few years by those awful snubbers.
