I have a 1960 Frigidaire Imperial.....De-gutted. It is a beautiful machine, and even has the suds saver feature. No guts though. Only the controls, wiring, and console.

I also have a 1961 Frigidaire Imperial, which I purchased for parts awhile back. The cabinet and console are thrashed, but the spin tub and mech are all there. I plugged this 61 in this afternoon and tried to run it.However, all it does is hum. I know the motor is trying to start, as the lighting in the garage dims slightly at the same time. The pulleys are movable by hand, and I noticed the top belt is tight and looks new, while the lower belt is loose and has chunks missing. I did try to start the motor by moving the pulley by hand as power was still engaged, but the motor would still not start up. The sound did change slightly as I rotated the pulley. It would seem as though the motor should at least try to run, however I realize that the belt tightness is an issue with these. Could the motor capacitor be defective, along with the belts? There is a small access panel on the rear at the bottom. I removed this panel, and it looks as though the motor capacitor is mounted on the inside of the rear panel, rather than on the motor itself. Should I replace the capacitor along with the belts?

Also, I have an additional question about this "transplant"
Will the spin tub from the 61 model fit the 60 model? If not, does anyone know where I can purchase a spin tub to fit a 1960?

Thanks guys!

HOLY S_ _t

Rick, That is an awesome looking machine! I'm sure the internals from my '60 would work in that! If you have any interest in getting rid of it let me know! Mark

Hi Rick, the '61 tub will work fine in the '60. They didn't change the tub until '63.

As for the motor, it could be the capacitor, start switch or it could be the timer as well.

That is wonderful news Robert! I have been worried that I would have to try and find a tub for this one. I will see if I can locate a capacitor this week, and get belts for it also. What is the deal with the belt tension? Should they be at equal tension? What makes the belt tension such a issue with these?

BTW: My first washer and dryer were a used set of 1963 Frigidaire Customs. The trans went out shortly after I bought it. The parts were all broken inside the transmition, and I could not ever find any parts for it. I ended up buying a 1971 Crown 1-18 and used that with the 63 dryer for about 12 more years. I always loved the fast spin. The drying time was so much shorter. That was important when I only had one washer and one dryer. How did I ever survive like that I will never know. But I can say that I will NEVER go back to only one set. I promise!! <:

No the spin belt has to be tight enough that it wont slip during the 10 second period that the water is being thrown from the tub.

Yay! You're going to have fun with this machine, I'd forgot that you had a "donor" machine to make that WCIR-60 like new again.

Have you checked the pump on the donor machine? It may be binding, not allowing the motor to turn freely - especially if that machine hasn't been run for a long time.

Best of luck - GN

Hi Greg, I have not checked the pump out that far, just enough to know that it does seem to turn ok with the motor shaft. Will look into that also. Hopefully I can get this finished before the cold weather. I have too much to do, and not enough time. This summer just flew by. I hate that.... <:

Sorry Kevin, I still am using 35mm. This pixs was taken by Greg, when he owned the machine. Anyway, I don't think the close up could be much larger anyway. It already fills the entire screen. I will take some pixs after the machine is finished, and will try for a better console close up.
