Center Dial Maytags 1967-1980. It has been so long since I saw that show, that's all I can say.

Bewitched: Maytag highlanders (pilot) Frigidaire Rollermatics (series, before kitchen remodel).

Roseanne: Center dial Maytag 806 set (1970s) replaced by 1970s Frigidaire 1-18s.

Jenny: No clue.

Partridge Family: No clue

Family Ties: Late 1970s early 1980's solid tub Speed Queen set (Season 1). Replaced by 1967 Lady Kenmore set (Seasons 2 - end of show).

Golden Girls: No clue. Never showed them as far as I know.

Have a good one,
James

There was an episode of the golden Girls too where there were supposed to be waiting for a dishwasher repairman, but there was no dishwasher to be seen in the kitchen! There was also another episode where Blanche walks into the kitchen after (off stage) doing some laundry, saying that they need more blee ashe, of course, meaning bleach!

Laundry Set on "Married With Children"

"jons1077"

Actually, I believe (and almost certain) that the 1972-73 Garage Door Keyboard Lady Kenmore Set that was seen on Married With Children was Avacodo, and not Coppertone.

But anyway, I find it unbelievable that an el-cheapo tightwad like Al Bundy could not afford to give his wife Peggy a state of the art kitchen, or afford a decent car for his family to get around in, but he can afford a Lady Kenmore Washer and Dryer set. After all, weren't those expensive back in the early/mid 1970's????

I don't know the color prefix letter, but it looks to have a suds saver. Note the blue lower portion of the control panel and the chrome strip across the front.
Beautiful machine, all that turquoise and chrome, it just screams clean! How far off from a match was the turquoise cabinet from the turquoise agitator? Also, did this machine sudslock? I doubt it! I love that Maytag sprayrinse!

Hi Guys

Just thought of something after reading this post.

We get Home Improvement over this side of the water on our ABC channel. Im sure there have been 2 lots of washers and dryers. Both Frigidaire I think. One set were 1-18s im sure as the washer had a window in the middle of the lid.The other set I think were 1960s models.

I was watching a show once and after the knowledge I have aquired on here I remember saying to the screen...Those are 1-18s!

Home Improvement, and Brady Whirlpools

I believe that the first set on Home Improvement may have been an 80s White Westinghouse pair.

The Brady Whirlpools were either 1970 models, or perhaps 1969. The first time they were shown was during the first season. I cannot remember exactly when the episode aired, but it was the episode where the family thought Jan was allergic to Tiger, and everyone was bathing the poor dog to prevent her from sneezing. Both Mike and Alice (separately) bathed him in the laundry room with the Whirlpools in the background.

Have a good one,
James

Godfather Memories and Six feet under!

If I remember correctly, in the last Godfather Movie, Al Pacino is in the Kitchen standing in front of a Kitchen Aid KDS14 Machine. It looked to be in perfect condition and was obviously placed in the correct time period of the movie!
In Six Feet Under, Mrs. Fisher had a KDS16 in Avocado Green in her Kitchen. Always looking out for those incredible KitchenAids!

Malcolm In The Middle

They had four sets during the show:

1. 80s Magic Chef set.

2. GE Filter Flo set (70s models I think)

3. Early 80s BD Whirlpool set

4. 200? DD Whirlpool set, or one of the other Whirlpool brands.

The DD Whirlpools were actually scripted as being replacements for the BD Whirlpools. I forget when the episode aired, but Lois (Jane Kaczmarak) was having trouble with the BD Whirlpool washer, but the family was short on funds for new machines. They got the money, and the next thing you knew the DDs stood where the BDs were.

Bewitched laundry equipment

Two things happened between the sixth and seventh seasons of "Bewitched" that changed the laundry equipment--and for that matter, everything else in Darrin and Samantha's kitchen. First, a fire destroyed the "Bewitched" set--everything except for, oddly enough, Elizabeth Montgomery's dressing room. Second, Chevrolet ended its sponsorship of "Bewitched" after 1969...so they didn't replace the appliances with new Frigidaire products. I remember a 1971 episode where Samantha opens a broom closet and a skeleton pops out. The closet is on the edge of the laundry area, which is furnished with center-dial "new generation" Maytags...

In another 1971 episode, Larry Tate asks Samantha were Darrin is. Her response: "The pilot light is out in the stove. He went to fix it." Of course, regular "Bewitched" fans recall that Frigidaire did not start making gas ranges until after "Bewitched" went off the air!

P.S. On "The Beverly Hillbillies," the closing credits read in part, "Cabinets by I-XL; appliances furnished by the American Gas Association." That's why Granny's Maytag dryer was a gas dryer.

Also, "Love That Bob's" sister, Rosemary DeCamp, cooked in a kitchen that featured a Servel gas refrigerator (I recognized it from its distinctive door handles)...

I dont' recall exactly what brand the avocado colored gas stove was, but I do recall that is it considered to be a major collectible now!

IIRC there were Maytag W&D both in the mortuary and in the residence.

Then there was the episode of I dream of Jeannie where Jeannie's evil cousin Jeannie puts Major Nelson on a spit of the rotisserie in the small eye-level upper oven of gas stove. Was it was turquoise? For effect the gas flames could be seen in a straight line (left-to-right) just about licking the human "roast".

Careful, has sound!

The only one I specifically remember is

Bob (and Emily) Newhart had an Amana 22 Side-by-Side refrigerator. You couldn't see much of the rest of the kitchen.

My parents' house still has the original 1962 i-XL cabinets, although my mother had them refinished, and had new door/drawer fronts installed. I couldn't stop her.

Bewitched and Leave It To Beaver

I remember a "Bewitched" episode in which Darren was promoting "Washington" washing machines. The drawings looked like they were copied from Speed Queen but I can't remember. When the later episodes get released on DVD I'll be looking for it. Also, I thought there was a washer episode on "Leave It To Beaver" but I can't remember what brand it was - something in white! - Mike

Laundry On Mama's Family......

"Harold":

I can't say for certain. But from sideway perspective off from a distance, they looked like early 1960's Kenmores. The washer in particular looked like the model that was a step down from the Lady Kenmore model of that year.

But did you see what Betty was trying to do with the Maytags? I like Mad Men too, but it's not flawless - the ceilings in the Sterling Cooper office are panels that did not come along until later and I have never seen panels and lights so nice and clean in real life. This is on a show where everyone smokes too.

On Knot's Landing there was a 1970 Kenmore set in the laundry room off of Karen and Mack's kitchen. I think they were 700s. Toward the end of the show's run they did run the dryer, and in the final season, they ran the washer. It was in this episode that they actually had a short scene filmed in the laundry room.

I will hand it to the set designers on "Mad Men", they got that washer and dryer spot-on for the time of the show (1960) - it makes sense that Betty would be getting intimate with a machine two years old.

Obviously, the installer didn't tighten those lock-nuts on the washer's legs or it would never shake and walk about the room like that! Maybe Betty loosened the lock-nuts on her own?

"Mad Men" Maytags

So, gansky1, the Maytags are '58 models? I was wondering how old they were.

This was the second episode where I've seen the washer & dryer. The first time was just a glimpse, though. If Betty keeps it up, we might see more of them in future episodes!

Leave it to Beaver...to oversuds the family washer!

In the very first episode of "Leave it to Beaver" (the one with the alligator), Wally and the Beav hide the alligator in the basement--which as I recall had a wringer washer (but I don't recall the make).

The episode djmjlcst is thinking about was from ca. 1961-62; Gilbert loses his money for the laundromat and Beaver offers to let him use his mom's washer and dryer. Since GE co-sponsored "Leave It to Beaver" from 1960 to 1963, the washer used was a TOL Filter-Flo automatic. As most GE owners know, they oversuds like crazy if you use high-suds detergent...

I would suspect Whirlpool would be the appliance maker of choice to furnish today's TV kitchens...in the WB/CW series "Reba," the kitchen was full of new TOL Whirlpool appliances (and Reba appeared on tour for Habitat for Humanity sponsored by Whirlpool!). I could picture Sam loading a pair of Duets with pedestals (and Uncle Arthur popping out of the dryer window!)

The episode that you speak of Bongobro had a 1960 Frigidaire Custom washer and a Ge Clothes Conditioner Dryer in it. There was no way GE was gonna have people thinking there washers would do that so that is probably why they substituted the Frigidaire

Home Improvement

I also remember the 80's model Westinghouses in the garage. There was once an episode where Tim "automated" the laundry process and had the detergent (liquid, unfortunately), and fabric softener automatically dispense. I think he was using plastic bottles with hoses, attached to the machine like an IV!

Roseanne -

They started out with a set of avocado center-dial Maytags, but then got rid of the set because the washer had a "cracked agitator". They replaced the Maytags with the 1-18's, but the "new" used washer was missing the timer knob, so they had had to turn the dial with a pair of pliers. It always bugged me when Jackie would come over to do her laundry and she wouldn't measure the Fresh Start (or comparable generic brand). She just poured it into the machine!

I never could figure out why they would replace the Maytags with the 1-18's, as I figured they were a better pair at the time. Surely Dan could replace an agitator????

Hazel-Car

It probably was a Ford Galaxie--Ford sponsored "Hazel" for its NBC run (I think Proctor & Gamble became the sponsor when "Hazel" moved to CBS for its final season in 1965). In any case, the opening credits showed Shirley Booth and company with a Ford; one episode had the Baxters buy a new Mustang just after its debut in 1964.
On the night before the Mustang went on sale, Ford aired a commercial for the new pony car at the same time on all three major networks--naturally, the spot aired Thursday at 9:30 PM, when "Hazel" went over the NBC network in "living color". For many people, "Hazel" is where they got their first glimpse of the Mustang. The rest is automotive history.

peter, yep, Richard Karn was the main reason to watch Tool Time. I find it interesting a "str*" man acknowledges his huge following in the bear community. When the show was on and some time after, I hear Richard went to a couple of bear events in appreciation for all his fans.

Hooray for "Hazel!"

The Baxter kitchen was originally furnished with what looks like an O'Keefe and Merritt gas range and an RCA Whirlpool gas refrigerator. The original opening in 1961 shows Hazel taking a freshly-baked batch of cookies out of the oven. As she pauses to enjoy the fragrance (and the "Shirley Booth starring as HAZEL" pops up on the screen), you can see the RCA Whirlpool emblem on the refrigerator door.

Ford Motor Company bought Philco Corporation in late 1961; in early 1964 there was an episode where Hazel and Missy (Dorothy Baxter) convince George to remodel the kitchen, at which time new TOL Philco appliances (including the Philco-Bendix Automagic washer and matching glass-window dryer) make their appearance.

If memory serves me, the Baxters drove Ford products, with the openings changing each year to reflect the new models:

Late 1961: White 1962 Ford Country Squire station wagon;

Mid-1962: Red 1962 Ford Galaxie 500/XL convertible (this is the car seen in the opening scenes when "Hazel" was syndicated in 1970);

Mid-1963: Red 1963 Galaxie 500/XL 2-door fastback hardtop with black vinyl top (you can see the "390" emblem on the front fender as Harold lines up for his picture with the family); not sure what car they used in the early l963 episodes, but it may have been another red Galaxie 500/XL convertible;

1964: 1964 Thunderbird convertible, possibly light blue; Dorothy luxuriates herself getting into the T-bird's back seat;

1965: 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 LTD 4-door hardtop; light blue with dark blue or black vinyl top; George can't find the car keys, but Harold borrowed them to "start" his miniature electric-powered toy Mustang (a rare thing then, even rarer now!)...

Ford's five-year sponsorship of "Hazel" ended in 1965 when they went to co-sponsor "The FBI" on ABC; "Hazel" ran through the 1965-66 season on CBS...
