I was in the garage today working putting the belts on the Multi-Tragic, when the dude that lives on the corner walked over. He said he found an old washer and dryer set at an auction, and wondered if I wanted them. I went over with him to look, expecting an almond direct drive Kenmore.... What he found was a set of 1965 Frigidaire Custom Imperials! Well, they are in perfect cosmetic condion, and the washer is a Rapid-Dry. They said the washer worked, and they did test it to be sure. It was still wet inside, so I knew it had jsut been used. I paid him for the set, and the boyz unloaded them into my garage. I have not done much with them, as I had too much other work to do today. I did a windex quicky clean up to the exterior of the set, and they look as new! The dude said that they were upstairs in the kitchen of the house, and the entire kitchen was all Frigidaire, all the same colour. (copper colour, but without shading) This is NOT my favourite colour, but I do have to admit, they look really good with all the flawless chrome. The control panels are also in perfect condition. They are starting to grow on me, and that is a little frighting, as I never really liked this style of Frigidaire washer and dryer. All the original paperwork was also with the set, but I have to go over and pick it up. The dude also bought the fridge, and it was the same colour and Frigidaire brand. He is keeping that. It was also in perfect condition. At any rate, I will check this set out further next weekend. Sorry that I do not have any pixs to share, will try to get some this week and post. <: |

rickr. I would prefer Coppertone over Harvest Gold any day. Looking forward to their presentation. |

I got all the paperwork for these yesterday. I think these are from 1966, not 1965 as I thought at first. At any rate, the washer model # is WCIK The washer and dryer cabinets are both full porcelain. I did not realize they still offered that option in 1966! Thanks everyone! I will have pixs tomorrow. Promise! <: |

Ok, here are the pixs of the Rapid-Dry Frigidaire set. Remember, these are digital pixs from a borrowed digSHITal camera and are of poor quality. I will take 35mm pixs when after the set is restored. Prolly not until spring of 08 though. The set will go in the workshop area of the basement. There is a coppertone Gibson fridge in the workshop area, and this Frigidaire set will look nice next to that.

Hi Rick, congratulations on a stunning set, wasnt sure what to make about the colour when you first mentioned it, BUT I love it...these look soo retro and automotive like with those big dials etc....I take it the small chrome knob under the dial turns the timer which then turns the dial?? Enjoy, Mike |

rick Is it possible to blowup the use and care instructions for this washer? When I acquired my Frigidaire WCIK it did not come with any literature. Thanks |

Thank you guys!! I am happy to have these! As with anything 40+ years old, these need some work, in spite of their "flawless" looks. The cabinets and control panels are perfect. But the washer outer tub has a rust hole about as large as a pinky finger. The pump shows signs of leakage also. But these are repairable, and both the machines do run just fine. In fact, the washer had the original water supply hoses on it! The dude cut them off, because they were seized onto the water valve. They were marked Frigidaire cold water/ Frigidaire Hot water. The cold line still had the metal conductor in it for earth ground. That shows that these did not move about much! And prolly did not need service much, if ever???? I will scan the instructions when I have a chance to do so. Might even have the boyz do it for me. Sounds like a good project for them anyway. <: |

Great set Rick. Love all that chrome trim. Thanks for the pics. If the whirlpools and Lady K's get a little jealous I'll gladly give the frigidaires a new home, LOL! |

No problem Erik. Glad you enjoyed them. Yes, no pink by 1966. I think pink must have gone out by the early 1960's. I was shocked that Maytag had the dreaded Avocado by 1966, but Frigidaire was still doing Turquoise! At least we cannot blame Avocado on Frigidaire... lol!! Too bad they stopped offering turquoise! Avocado was such a ugly colour to replace Turquoise with. >: I do not recall ever seeing any Frigidaire Rapid Dry machines in Avocado, but am sure they were out there somewhere. |

You talk about a washing machine from heaven. Jesus H !!!! Soak AND wash AND SOAP too--This thing is nuts! And you could have it with a Suds-saver and TWO MORE buttons--RICK!! 'm friggin' gasping. How smart and specific they are about getting rid of sudslock--pump on and water entering; they forgot to tell us to switch to cold rinse. Now I know why that shade of copper was so intense--it's AZTEC copper and may contain blood ; D Rick, that is surely one of the coolest machines ever made, and I'm so glad you got it. You'll stay up at night in the dark watching the magic glass control window advance without a knob, making the copper shimmer as if alive. Thank You so much for the feast. Mike |
