The door opens from left to right, but what is intriguing is that it appears to have a slight slant front - notice the shadow below the door! Any idea lads? |

Thanks Louis, you're quick off the mark! And fancy it being a Philips... what a coincidence after your post earlier! Si |

Here's a picture of a later model. The detergent dispenser is indeed on top. The mother of a schoolfriend had a similar one with blue control panel, but that one had already the rotary control like in this later model. It's possible though that it wasn't a Philips, but a Ruton or Erres, the labels that Philips also used for washing machines. Loved the series "On the buses" btw, it was broadcasted in Holland too. It's a long time ago, can't remember seeing this episode. |

Paul, No, that's not my machine. I saved it from the internet, from this album. I actually don't know much about these machines. I love the slanted front, but IIRC the drum wasn't. As far as I remember the one the mother of my schoolfriend had spun with 750rpm, but I'm not sure about that. I hope there is somebody who knows more about Philips washers, I always had a weak spot for them, ofcourse partly because it was a Dutch brand, although the machines weren't built overhere. Yes Peter, that does make sense. As I said, I vaguely remember a model that had a spin control and a temperature control on the right. Don't remember any colors though. Another thing: I don't remember these machines as having a tilted drum. As far as I remember the machine of my friend's mother didn't have a tilted drum, just a slanted front. If you look at the last picture it looks like the rubber boot is wider at the bottom than it is at the top. But as we said before, it's all a long time ago! LOL Louis |

Hi Paul, That pic you uploaded of that Philips Slimstar i think would dated from the mid 70's (i think) only because the Last Thor Automagic i picked up from London about 2 years ago, the guy brought this exact machine brand new and stored it in the garage until the Thor gave out..when i went to get the Thor the old gentleman asked if i could help with getting the Slimstar into the kitchen, it was still in the packaging, and i helped him plumb it in and it still had the packet of free washing powder inside !! Thinking about it now, wish i had asked if i could have purchased it if him, the styling was great on it, and being brand new would have been fab. Cheers Keith |

I swear I need to take a picture of my Grandads Philips dryer in Almond with brown control panel and orange graphics. Same Dial as the Later Series With Timer on the Right as Louis posted. I love that design, Great memories of me putting the wet washing from Nanas Philco into the dryer and setting the timer for her on instruction. R |

its like the top one you posted, round door the same as that. However its got a dark control panel instead of the steel one on that. Also it only has 2 dials. Time and temperature. Temp dial is the tiny one. No lights or anything else. Im assuming it was bought in 1984/5 or so together with the Philco. Nana also had a under counter Philips fridge. Very similar in design to the fridge freezer Madge and Harold in Neighbours had in the 80s/90s. Think Jim Robinson had same fridge freezer too. Il try to get a snap of it soon as I can. Rob

Nice pics there guys...Blue certainly was Philips`s colour in the 70`s.... I love the sloping front of the earlier machine, looks so robust...The SlimStar toploader is the UK HN3156, 1000rpm, this had the side detergent dispenser.. I think the Philips machines of the 70`s / 80`s up to the Italian 090 series where by far the most stylish machines around and very functional, I could kick myself for not having kept all the sales documentation from then... That kitchen has the AWM082 series washer , paired with the D186 dryer, these had the polypropylene tub, permag motor, both with 10yr guarantee..The drum was suspended on 4 large springs with 2 damper struts down below, allowed the tub to flex but was very sturdy during the spin as these spun with the tub full of water for an even distribution. The dishwasher was the Series X2000 with all polypropylene tub as well, very quiet, and the fridge freezer was the ARG 196...the bigger one that that was the ARG411.. I`m keeping my fingers crossed, Alpha Dave called around to say that a friend had moved into a house and the original machine was there, she asked "did he want it" he said NO "But I know a man who does"...lol..Dave said , "You`ll never guess what it is??" and he said a 70`s Philips with a "Silver Console"...OMG you`ll have to wait til next week, as I will!! |

sounds about right for the model number! Could be the one. Im sure its a 186. Cant wait to see some pics Mike or your new collection piece. It does have to be said, that the Philips machines did look and feel more substantial in style than the other machines at the time. Wow I just cant wait, roll on next week. Rob

Paul, Yes, that washer is still with us. I mailed with the owner and he confirmed that the drum is not tilted, just as I thought I remembered. I think the programme guide is cool, I think it folds down, just as it does on my Philips AWB119 toploader. Peter and Rob, I'm glad I can share those pictures with you, that's what we're here for, isn't it? Louis |

I'm sorry, but I still don't understand what you mean.
IMHO the Tatramat is a totally different machine. Not only does the Tatramat have the timer on the right side and the Philips has it on the left side, but the Tatramat seems to have the pump on the right side too, while Philips had it on the left side. Here is a picture that shows a similar Philips with a small door for the pump on the left. |

Not sure if the Tatramat is a relabeled Brandt, but it comes closer to this machine than to the Philips:
