I had tables set up in my workshop......and the washers were ready and waiting for loads of laundry saved for the event........

Watching the Kenmore Combo.......Jeff, Jim, and Gary had never seen a Combo in action before.....here they are learning how it spins and balances itself before going into SPIN........

More Kenmore Combo.....what a facinating washer !

Jeff from Mansfield generously brought me two new machines.....so it was time to unload them........the first one........a rather rare Maytag model 124 ! Time filled.....he just recently found this.......

Post# 317593 , Reply# 6   12/31/2069 at 18:00 (19,848 days old) by filterflo (Chicago Area)

Previously untested........we brought in inside....let it warm up for a few.....then "tested" it........Yeah! It worked..... sort of! .........

Post# 317594 , Reply# 7   12/31/2069 at 18:00 (19,848 days old) by filterflo (Chicago Area)

It had a slight leak in the back near the pump......

Post# 317595 , Reply# 8   12/31/2069 at 18:00 (19,848 days old) by filterflo (Chicago Area)

So, Gary who is the Maytag repair expert of the group....helped to fix it! Here is the group assiting Gary.......turned out this washer still had the original METAL pump on it.......I had a new plastic one........Gary installed it in a jiffy !

Post# 317596 , Reply# 9   12/31/2069 at 18:00 (19,848 days old) by filterflo (Chicago Area)

All fixed the running a load of "whites"......Jeff is holding the old metal pump. I had not seen an original metal pump in 20 yrs!

Post# 317597 , Reply# 10   12/31/2069 at 18:00 (19,848 days old) by filterflo (Chicago Area)

More of the metal pump close up.......Maytag made one of the best pumps ever....they were extremely durable.......seldom if ever do they need replaced.......

Post# 317598 , Reply# 11   12/31/2069 at 18:00 (19,848 days old) by filterflo (Chicago Area)

Taking the pump apart......the metal ones could have been rebuilt at one time in their lives.....before the plastic pump had been invented.....here is the pump all apart......the seal of course was bad...... but still a testament to the good quality build that Maytags always had.....

Post# 317599 , Reply# 12   12/31/2069 at 18:00 (19,848 days old) by filterflo (Chicago Area)

All fixed and running. This model is from approx 1958 judging from the dates on the back.......which makes it an even 50 yrs old! Thanks to Gary for repairing this.....its now ready for another 50 yrs of good and reliable service......

We were reading about the 1960 Kelvinator washer with "eccentric" wash action so gentile you could wash a paper napkin without tearing.......

Post# 317606 , Reply# 19   12/1/2008 at 02:04 (5,634 days old) by filterflo (Chicago Area)

Well, why not try it?........

Great pics, it looks like you all had a fun day.

I have lots of pics from the VCCC convention gathering at Jimmy's in August that I need to process and post sometime - lots of pics of his machines and collections of vintage goodies.

Woo Hoo, Wash-in Fun

Jimmy,

Looks everyone had a fabulous time, suds lock and all! The pics reminded me of the great time everyone had back in August. All those washers whirring and spinning, kinda makes your head spin too! Say hello to Tom for me.

See you next month in Detroit at the NAIAS. If you make it out here soon, we can have a great big wash-in, more fun than a barrel of monkeys!
