Wow! That seems impressive :) Can I ask how big are the towels? I wouldn't ever be able to fit that many in my washer! At most 4 bath towels and the drum is full! I love that poppy red washing machine! |

I did enjoy that, even though, or especially since I sold my Poppy red, but to a memeber here! They are nice, big, rugged machines that use tons of water. Thanks for the memories, espeically the color. |

I think you should get a high efficiency front loader LOL, there is no way I'll ever have one of those things Laundress, I'd sure love to get my hands on one of those noisy old Jet Action machines! I grew up with one myself. BTW, there are methods of quieting them, as for efficency in today's "government" standards I'm not sure that their definition of efficency and the thoroughness the machines are noted for go hand in hand. If anyone on here has one they want to sell... just let me know! |

When did Frigidaire stop using "bouncy" agitators. I'm really impressed with the rollover on the Unimatic, Rollermatic, and Jet Action machines. It's a shame the don't make them anymore. |

Neat I-18. As to Launderess' statement, wouldn't a solid tub Unimatic exceed today's standards? Bobby in Boston |

When did Frigidaire stop using "bouncy" agitators? This brings up a sore spot around here... In 1979 GM sold off Frigidaire to WCI who did not adopt the same mechanism as the Real Frigidaire, instead replacing it with internals made by Westinghouse. There was still a Frigidaire 1-18, but it was not GM sourced and had an oscillating agitator and indexing tub. I hear they were hell to work on and didn't clean as well. I'm generally disgusted at the sight of one even though they now are also vintage machines. It's a shame they don't make them anymore You have no idea how much I wish they still did. High standards and real quality are a rare find these days. |

IIRC, GM decided it was not worth the effort to spend money retooling and making new dies for production, and neither did WCI. GM like others who got out of the appliance business early, saw where things were going, that is a trend towards being a consumer good, rather than a "major" investment. Small wonder why today a handful of companies own most of the major brand names. L. |

Thanks Jet! I really appreciate all the kind comments. I felt a little gawdy about putting more pics of this machine on here because I've featured it here on several occasions, but I really wanted to share. Guys I'd love to see pics of your Frigidaires on this thread, please feel free to add your pictures to this thread, let's all celebrate the machines that we love!
