Well, here it is - my first vintage Frigidaire washer! This is the Deluxe model that I scored at a moving sale I found on Craigslist Montreal last week. For a mere $50, I think I got a pretty nice machine!

The cabinet is nearly perfect on three sides...

But the side that used to be near the laundry tub got a little splashed and rusty. Still, nothing serious...

A wiring diagram?

turquoisedude's profile picture
Wow - I have a washer with a wiring diagram for a change! lol
Very interesting the way the model number is composed: WDAC 63
My best guesses:
W= Washer
D= Deluxe
A= Automatic
C = Canadian
63 = 1963
??
They mention a WDARC 63 - which I guess was because it had a suds-return feature.
Still, interesting that there was a Frigidaire appliance plant in Ontario!

The tub is beautfiul! No chips, cracks, stains or even soap scum residue!

Nice, clean lid

turquoisedude's profile picture
I can just imagine the former owner carefully wiped down the tub lid and opening after each of the 17 or 18 times she used this washer!

Pulsator looks good!

Nice and flexible, should be able to wash for a few more years!

Now THIS is a washer! The tub and pulsator are in AWESOME shape. You should be proud of this find!! Any chance we could get some panel close-ups?

I personally haven't peformed the procedure, but go to your local hardware shop and pick up some non detergent Air Compressor oil. Get cap extensions because I think you need to spin the mechanism so the nut is facing up to get the fluid in the case. Hopefully those who have performed the surgery can fill in the missing blanks.

Again - AWESOME find! I love the sound of a Multimatic washing away.

Ben

BTW - what does the sticker say on the front of the cabinet?

Post# 346446 , Reply# 12   5/4/2009 at 11:50 (5,470 days old) by turquoisedude (.)
One panel close-up

turquoisedude's profile picture
Sorry I didn't think to shoot one of the controls!
The sticker on the front has stylized Maple Leaf stating the washer was made in Canada. I remember so many appliances having this still on them after years of service. I think it was actually law that you couldn't remove it... lol
I am hopeful someone on the board will be able to help me with the oil dilemma. I am seriously thinking I'm going to have to take the tub out to do it!!

Thanks for showing the...

PUSH button. I always wondered about that silly little button. I just thought it was a Robertism.

1963?

This looks like the DeLuxe model/style pre Jet-Action/Roller-Matic mechanism era.

1963 was my "best guess" - I know very little about Frigidaire products (well so far!!)
BUT, 63 was a good year... lol

Congrats on a great find and have fun washing!!

Thanks! I was pretty darn excited about finding a real pulsator-style Frigidaire! When I saw what kind of shape it was I just had to have it! Shame the former owner chose not get the matching dryer...

When you can, and

not a moment before, I would (and I bet some others would, too) really like a shot of the dials.

Nice find!

Dial photos next week, I promise

turquoisedude's profile picture
I just never thought about taking a picture of them this weekend!
The timer dial is kind of cool - I had never seen one with a water level control as part of the timer dial! Then again, the Westy has a temperature control as part of its timer...

Wow! A '63 with a mint agitator column! That is a real find! Congrats!

Most unusual to find one with the original energy ring and detergent column intact. Those detergent column rings are like new!

As far as cleaning ability goes, IMO, this agitator combined with the larger tub was the best.

I'm glad you got such a nice machine!

Awesome find

Congrats to you in finding a machine in such great condition being 46 years old. Are you thinking of painting it turquoise?

Great find Paul! And it looks to be in very nice condition too. I would have to say that someone took very good care of this machine. You could simply repaint the one side with appliance epoxy paint like I did my "summer home" Maytag and then give the cabinet a nice coat of wax. Or have the top blasted and change the colour to turqoise if you want to take it that far. I sure hope this beautiful machine runs ok for you. I've never had any luck with the Multimatics. :<

To paint or not to paint...

turquoisedude's profile picture
I am thinking the cabinet is already so nice, it would be a shame to paint all of it. I may pair this one up with the 59 GE Clothes Conditioner dryer which is white also.
