Some of you might remember the epic undertaking of restoring a Maytag Highlander 126 earlier this year that I did. Anyway, I'm finally sick of having that machine around.....the brake issues are bumming me out and I'm tired of messing with it...
So......
I'm offering it for free for whoever wants it. The mechanics on the machine are all in good shape EXCEPT for the brake package. The motor is new, belts are new, new fill valve, and several weeks of work to make the machine in good condition. The brake holds......kinda......but it's completely worn out. The tub indexes during wash, and towards the end of the cycle it will index about 1/8 revolution every time the agitator reverses direction. The paint on the front of the unit could also use a quick sand and recoat, but I don't think it would require more than 5-10 minutes of work tops for a satisfactory result.
I don't have the tools, experience, or the patience to put even one more ounce of effort into this machine, so by all means, if you're interested, email me at tristarcxl@gmail.com to arrange a time to get it. I live about 1 hour NW of San Antonio, TX.
I'd keep it around, but I only have room for 2 machines, and I really, truly want a Belt-Drive Kenmore/Whirlpool (if I EVER find one around here.....they're scarce as Hen's Teeth here for some reason!!!).
Below is a picture of the machine (with the Chrome trim taken off at the time) as well as a link to the original restoration thread. Additional pictures available upon request.
How about getting a new brake package and keeping it.
Just tired of messing with this particular machine. It also brings negative memories of a person involved with obtaining it that I wish to no longer associate with.
I COULD fix it myself, but I really want a BD Whirlpool or a Kenmore, and when I find one, the Maytag will have to go anyway. I've only got room for 2 machines. The GE isn't going anywhere.
I believe that a friend and fellow collector wants the machine, and I know it'll get used more and receive more appreciation than it is here.
