Monkey Norge is a takeoff on Montgomery Wards. We used to call Wards Monkey Wards. The washer was built by Norge, hence Monkey Norge.

Thank you for sharing this! One beautiful machine. Too bad all of the new appliances seem to look alike. Back then everything was so unique and cool.

Rick:
How fun are the Norge built machines! I used my Magic Chef Norge with Burpalator agitator this weekend. One difference with mine: the agitator turns in very slow motion during the neutral drain. It is so fun to see that perfect 180 degree arc in slo mo, then BANG and off it goes into spin.

Wow, what would that timer be considered? Seems much more elaborate than the typical "rapid advance" units.

It sure has some unique features!

rick, hmm, you're causin a somewhat purist here to have some blood pressure problems lol. You used the obvious two different size filter pans from the burp-a-lator era of the 18-20 lb. Norges--a larger one and a smaller one (when you put the fabric softener dispenseer on top of it). What was it that was in the back filer slot at the beginnign of the wash--I doubt it was any kind of legitimate Norge filter, or was it? I about had a heart attack when ya pulled the filter pan out of the back slot during the ifnal spin. Correct me if I"m wrong, but I don't think the larger agitator mounted filter pan could co-exist with the original back-slot filter pan because the agitator one was too wide? an interesting comment, kinda "Kenmore-ish", but I've never seen the "newer" style drain and spin coupled with the recirculating filter system--only this style drain & spin with the burp-o-lator filter system. Anuyway, I found it intersting the filetr stream water kept pumping through while it was draining and starting to spin--that's what I meant by kind "Kenmore"ish. Now a challenge, I would love to see this washer with a black bakelite agitator that was found on the Norge14/15/Monkey Warks 14/15 pound washer--like on Jon Charles' 1964 or 1965 Norge. THAT was the agitator I asssociate with the filteer-stream deisgn, not the white plastic agitator as found originally on your washer.

Rick that "touch n wash" is the coolest thing. Why should you spend your time endlessly turning a timer by hand. Thank You for the great video's. Simply Fascinating. arthur

Ok, Thanks for the nice comments on this unique machine! Now I will answer some questions..

The machine came with the white basket lint filter only. Gregm sent me the blue basket type lint filter, and I cut it down so I can use the LARGE burpalator pan filter with the SMALL recirculating filter.Darrell sent me the Burpalator agitater,as this machine only had the basket type filter. It always had the white plastic type agitator though, just the non-burpalator type.
I can also use the Small burpalator filter pan with the original LARGE basket type filter. The small filter pan causes a lot of splashing, so I usually just use the large filter pan, and the small "homeaid" basket filter.

This machine is a lot of fun, and is one of my favourites. I even like this machine better than my Frigidaires!

Any other questions or comments, please feel free!

Thank you for the video clips-they remind me of the Norge washer my Mom had when I was little-remembered it had the big black 4 bladed "Burpulator" agitator and a shiney metal lint pan.Esp liked its Deep rinse cycles. Now I will need to ask the swap shops out here if they ever run into Norge or "monkey" Ward machines-the last time I asked the swap shop operators said Norges were rare out here.Maybe one will turn up someday-like a Magnavox console Hi-fi.Those are rare here too.

Great videos Rick!!! Very clear and crisp too, are you using a newer high definition video camera? If not maybe Youtube has upped the amount of resolution on new incoming videos.

Thanks Robert! Yes, I finally bought a Kodak 12 pixel high definition camera at xmas this year. I had been waiting for years for the picture quality to match my old 35mm camera, and they finally got the digital cameras up there.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone! This is a FUN machine to play with.

BANG!

That is one awesome washer! Love the blue light effect on the dial. Very calming to watch and see... until it spins.

I didn't know Norges did neutral drain right before clunking into spin. How fun is that?

What a beautiful & very unique washing machine.

This washing machine is special in so many ways .

I like how it sprays water out the top sides of the agitator in wash mode.

Also like the cool blue filter over the fluorescent light.

Its easy to fall in love with this machine.

What a wonderful find !!!!!!! Congratulations

Hi Rick now that what you call a "Rapid Advance Timer" often seen over here on Philco bendix machines, although I`m sure those didnt revolve as quick, lovely machine has everything you need with filter flow, dispensers and wide sweep wash, enjoy it, Mike

That is what I grew up with my Parents bought a new Norge 20 Lb washer and dryer. They were white and would wash the living daylights clothes that is for sure. One thing ours didnt do was the water comming out of the back thing. That is where ours filled with but thats it.The lint filter was the same they were bought in May 1972 and died when I started college in 1995..Great vids brings back a ton of memories.

Ok, will do!

My brother and boyfriend have been rewiring the house and are almost finished. The furnace and central air are installed, and the a/c was charged up this afternoon as is blowing cold. The new plumbing is installed, and the garage roof goes on this Sunday morning. So we are making progress, and the house is going back together now.
I will make a video today, and post it later this weekend. <:
