Maytag dryer comparison

I may need to see a picture of the control panel of your 407. But, if memory serves me right, the 407 has auto dry (which is exhaust temp thermostatic temp. drying) and the 806 is electronic dry control and your 407 does not have the electronic sensors in the tub. (I'm interpreting your request because you want to switch out control panels???) If I misinterpreted, I apologize--that you want to physically switch out the two dryers. Secondly, there is kind of a built-in adjustable dryness on those old electronic control dryers (before they put more dry and normal dry on panel buttons next to the high & delicate heat buttons). The permanent press dry cycle dries the load to a more dry state than the regular dry cycle. The manual states to use the perm press/wash&wear dry cycle for loads the user wants a more dry situation. Also, if the 806 does not have regualr and delicate (or something like that) dry heat temp buttons, then the dryer uses an all-fabric dry temp., which I think is the low-heat setting.

Checkrate/Likes I have a DE407 it works fine and is in OK shape. Would it be worthwhile to change up to a DE806? I'm not sure if I like the non-adjustable dryness on an 806. Which one would last longer? I don't really have room for both. What do the experts think? Thanks, Nicholas

Checkrate/Likes *Get a later DE608 or 808* If I am not mistaken they not only have 2 buttons for hi and low heat but also 2 buttons for more dry or less dry...PAT COFFEY

Checkrate/Likes I always say, is it ain't broke, don't fix it. They are both reliable, maybe the 407 a bit more, since it doesn't have electronic drying control. If it were me, I'd stay with the 407, unless you wanted a lighted console, or were looking to make a matching pair. My advice is given freely, value accordingly. kennyGF
