And is this something that I should try to get for my sister? She wants an older, better built dishwasher, so I have to find her one....

Is that the version that has one of those Vacuum Flourescent Displays? or was that the Maytags that had those?

This is a KitchenAid/Hobart design, but built under Whirlpool's ownership. The 21 was a transitional model, so depending on when it was built, it will either have the round Hobart motor, or the square Emerson motor. Either one worked well. The machine has a vacuum flourescent display. I believe it also gives you the option to turn off the water heating if you want. I had it for a while in my kitchen, but traded it in for a tall tub model because I just needed more room and a quieter machine. Quiet this was not!!

Snatch it up, Rick!

It is true that the old KAids were not so quiet-----mainly because they use water----what a concept.
I like to use a roll of water heater insulation to wrap the machines and it greatly improves the sound level.

The use and care manual is on the kitchen aid website. The model number is KUDS21SSO.

Thanks for the information guys! She wants it, so I think it's a done deal.

I printed the owners manual for her also. Thanks again!

What year is this dishwasher, btw? Anyone know?
