Finally got round to trying out my Supermatic, everything seems ok apart from the heater doesn't seem to work. If I fill it with hot water and try and set it to heat the buzzer goes off and the switch moves to wash, so I am guessing that it must be the heater element that's the problem, everything seems to be conected up ok, any other ideas of what might be the problem?
Perhaps the water you fill with is hotter than the temperature you are selecting? If it is, the fly-back thermostat will reset to wash. Try a higher temperature setting or fill with cooler water!
If the machine has a boil-dry safety thermostat (which I suspect it will have), check that it hasn't died - you'll need a continuity tester for that. Rich had one fail on this Hotpoint 9605 top loader a year or so a go, and mine has just gone too - this means the heater won't run! (Most annoying - I've only had mine out of storage for a month or so in the new house - pics to follow soon, plus the new Aqualtis dryer).
