If it's like a KDS16, the timer will advance slightly to skip one or two of the prewash/prerinses, the timer advances a few increments during the main wash phase for a shorter main wash phase, and it advances through a few increments at the beginning of the dry cycle for a bit shorter dry cycle. On Plate Warm, it advances all the way aorund until it gets to about 12 or 20 minutes at the end of the dry cycle.

The rapid advance timer has two motors. One is for advancing the timer cam quickly to a set point to begin a cycle. Once it reaches that point, it cuts out and the second, slower speed timer motor takes over and advances the cam at the normal speed to go thru the cycle. The majority of vintage dishwashers, washers and such use this two motor system. For example, for rinse and hold, my KDS-19 will start at the beginning of the cam and fill during one of the prewash increments. It'll wash and then advance thru the majority of the cam until it nears the end. There it'll wash some more then drain. It quick advances thru the drying portion (pausing there for a few moments) then rapid advance to off. Clear as mud, right? RCD |
