Reminds me of my Kenmore Oasis Even though I like them :) If I had to do it all over again I would have gone with speed queen. |

Those machines are just toys! You can't expect them to do any real washing! Good luck to who ever buys them. |

My previous Cabrio is what broke my lifelong dedication to Whirlpool. NO THANKS. The fancy screen is just a nicer way of displaying all the error codes you will soon start getting. Even back in 2005...if you were to peak at the clothes, they were struggling to get washed in too little water. Ugh. Bad memories.

...how long before appliance manufacturers start incorporating Android-based controls in their devices? I've seen some pics of microwaves and such with the full-on touchscreen (as prototypes) but a *good* W/D set with one would be an interesting find, especially if it had both "Basic" and "Expert" modes! Makes me want to hack a SQ set with a 21st century touch-screen control setup for more cycles and options... |

put that screen on a frontloader and I could possibly be persuaded to part with my beloved Calypso. |

Seems SQ HAD touch pads/digital displays in the late 80s/early 90s...even states this on their timeline on their website. I guess they proved unreliable. I like the big dials better anyway. My Cabrio had all the bells and whistles and flashing lights...I appreciate the simplicity of the new SQ better.

4000 is for the set - still very expensive. I wonder if those extra cycles like Allergen or Baby Wear allow for a truly hot wash. From PopularMechanics This top-load washer/dryer combo lets users take control using touchscreen LCDs to select settings such as cycles, temperatures and wash times. There's also a USB port (a washer feature that the manufacturer claims is a first) that allows users to upload firmware updates. And while there's no built-in Internet connection for now, Whirlpool anticipates future iterations breaking that barrier, allowing users to download new cycles and even create their own custom ones. Treehugger.com says: Now, on to that washer/dryer prototype. I'm told that this Vantage Washer/Dryer set is going to be the industry's first top-load "super energy efficient" washer. I was not given numbers, unfortunately, so we're going to have to wait a bit to see if that's true. But it's a top-loading washer that has similar water efficiency as front-loading washers. Even though we don't have numbers, it has some really interesting eco-features. The washer and dryer both have touchscreen monitors on which you can select specific cycles for your clothing, allowing you to wash clothes exactly as they should be washed so that they last longer. The dryer syncs up with the washer so it can detect exactly how damp your clothes are, dry for the appropriate time, and shut off when your clothes are dry - not just when the program says they ought to be, avoiding over-drying. Also, the monitor shows you how energy and water efficient you've been with your cycle selection for each load, and over the course of a month. So at the end of each month, you can see how you can improve the way you wash your clothes to save energy and water. Pretty cool! |

Someone could make alot of money reprograming the boards on these machines to set for high water levels. |

While I am mostly fascinated by these new-fangled high tech appliances, it should be noted these are not accessible to blind and low vision consumers. See link below.--Laundry Shark CLICK HERE TO GO TO laundryshark's LINK |

Have they gone MAD? lol I can't even fathom spending that much on an appliance. Yeah the touch screens are cool and they hold a lot of clothes, but, as mtn1584 said, too little water, probably poor washing quality and something that won't last a quarter of the lifetime as something vintage. And honestly I don't see how the older washers are that much wasteful when it comes to water usage. If you think about it, fill a washer with clothes, fill it with water, take the clothes out and you'll see exactly how much water it's using. Plus however much is left in the clothes. Now if you use a full load setting on a top loader to wash 1 or 2 articles, yeah that would be wasteful, but how many people actually do that? I prefer to stick with the solid metal tanks of yesteryear. They last almost forever, provide a good, quality wash and won't fill the landfills as fast as these new machines you're lucky to get 5 years out of. But, that's just my 2 cents.
