There were many firsts.

1st mechanical washing machine
1st powered washing machines (gas engine, electric motor, belt drive from a multi-purpose engine or motor, etc)
1st automatic washer (Bendix)

Sure beats a wash board,
Dave

I have a brochure from the 1900 Corporation about their Cataract washers, they started in the late 1800's. The Cataract was a rocking tub washer.

First automatic = Bendix
First agitator automatic = Blackstone

I think there are only 2 Thor automatics out there: one of the guys in Pheonix (?) and one of the guys over in Britain. I think the wringers are even rare.
