Can anybody help me with this dial. I'd like one in good condition, that's shiny and has little or no missing paint.

Maytag Dial In Good Condition

I'd like a dial in this condition, but with the pre-wash and soak cycles marked on it. This one is totally wrong for my machine.

The washer it goes on is in thread #30451 in the 2010 archives. It just left the main page a few days ago.

Is that a 608?

806

The washer photo looks like an 806, I was basing that one the chrome seam above the dial that separates the backsplash panels. I think the upper blacksplash on 608 and lower is 1-piece metal.

Maytag Dial In Poor Condition

beekeyknee's profile picture
Kenny,
The first picture is a dial on my 806. That's the one I'd like to replace. The second picture is just an example of the condition I'd like my 806 dial to be in (or close to it). I ordered a dial from a place in Rockford, Ill. She asked for a picture of the dial and then sent me a dial like the one I already had - the one I'd picked up at a local store here in town. At least she had a picture to go by. I was guessing from memory when I picked up the local one.

I sent her back and email with pictures of the mistake she'd made and she said she had a dial that was close to it but not and exact match. She sent it to me. It has the "Soak" cycle and a blank spot where the "Pre-wash" cycle is supposed to be, if it's going to match my machine.

So now I have 4 dials. The bad one on my machine, two like the second picture I posted and the one that has the "Soak" cycle, but no "Pre-wash" cycle. No picture of it, but you probably know which dial I'm talking about.

I'd be willing to trade and/or pay to get a decent dial. If you can help or know of someone that could, I'd be extremely grateful. My rebuild is on post 30451, if you haven't seen it. Thanks.
Brian.

I have 2 of the 806 dials, but they're still on machines! Don't want to part with them right now.

Maytag Dial Restored

beekeyknee's profile picture
Since no one seemed to have a replacement dial for my machine, a friend and I made a mirror image transparency from a picture, combined with Adobe Photoshop and a CD label maker program. Then we placed it on a flash drive and duplicated it to make six transparencies on an 8 x 11 sheet.

I placed a scribe mark on the side of the dials where the permanent press "Off" mark was. Then with a bench grinder, polishing wheels, and some rouge, I buffed up the old dials to a brilliant shine. Next, I masked off the areas I didn't want photo mount adhesive on, carefully cut out the inter and outer circles of the transparency with a radial cutter, and placed the transparency precisely where it should be on the dial to match the cycles.

We also made a two color version of avocado and a lighter green to coordinate with the color of my washer, in case I ever want to give it a custom look.

Many thanks to my friend for helping me with the computer graphics.

Oh, I forgot. After I had finished, I clear coated the dial to seal it.

I'm looking for an 808 avocado dryer in good cosmetic condition to go with my washer, if anyone knows of one. No yucky dials or buttons, please. No spray and wash damage, either.
Thanks.

Fantastic job on the dial!

Do you need gas or electric dryer? I have an 806 in Avocado I would part with. It's gas, and the older Halo of heat style, earlier than yours. Let me know.

806 Dryer

beekeyknee's profile picture
I am interested in the dryer. If you could tell me about the dryer, I would appreciate it. Any information would be nice. Does it have the gold paint where the buttons are, the over all condition, have you ran it, and so forth. If you'd like to email me, that would be OK with me. Let me know. Thanks much.
Brian
