Hey everyone, I thought I'd let you know that tonight I was on Home Depot's website and saw the semi-famous (on this forum anyway) Admiral washer and dryer that we've touted as such a great value. I still haven't un-boxed my set, but they're on sale for less than $500 again for the pair!! Haven't seen that price since the Spring. $259 for the washer and $239 for the dryer.
If you've been thinking about a Admiral DD washer, now seems like the best time to get one! Gordon |

I stopped to look at the Admiral one night when in Home Depot. The vulture, er, salesperson swooped in. I mentioned having heard good things about the Admiral. I was told it was a good, basic machine. "But it's noisy. Chugga-chugga." The $600 machine next to it would be quieter. (I remember this salesperson from another time, when I was looking for dishwashers for a friend. Then, the basic dishwashers were criticized because they were noisy then.)
Honestly, if I bought new, I'd probably buy as cheap as possible, unless I could do Speed Queen or Miele. The Admiral has the features normal people need, and since it's the basic WP DD, it might actually last longer than some of those quieter $600 machines at Home Depot. |

I think I'd heard someone suggest the oil used also makes a difference.
Given that this salesperson used the "quiet" line twice (this washer and the dishwasher a couple of years ago), I have to wonder if maybe it isn't just part of a sales pitch to sell something more expensive to either get a better commission (if HD has them), or impress the manager. Personally, I don't mind the sound of an appliance running, so the quiet or noisy bit argument is wasted on me. |
