This morning after the first spin, the timer on my Maytag A107 (1974 Model year) quit advancing. You can advance it manually and the cycles will start, but of course, you have to advance it again manually to the next cycle. You can hear the timer actually ticking, but it won't move. Yogi suggested some lube, so I'll be trying that later this evening. If by chance that doesn't cure the problem, any other suggestions? Thank you all in advance.

A107 TIMER NOT ADVANCING

Take it apart and check the timer motor, these have always been a weak spot for the black plastic Kingston timers and MT used a lot of them.

Update

ultramatic's profile picture

Pulled the timer motor out....and tried it independently, you can here it "ticking" but the output gear won't move. It was very tight, oiled it and the output gear moves freely now, but the motor won't move it. I suppose something is broken inside, even though when you turn the output gear, you can here it turning other gears inside. So I suppose I'll be needing a new motor.

The motor is a Kingston Mod 60 120vac 3w

Ok, another update:

The output gear only turns in one direction, I read somewhere if it only turns in one direction, the motor is OK. If it turns in both directions it's broken.

Yet another update:

Took apart the motor, found the culprit. Broken plastic gear. The motor runs fine. I read online you can order these made in brass, so I'll be replacing it with one of those.

I ordered the part...

a bit pricey at $20, but it's in brass. It should last longer than the timer itself. I'll keep you all posted.

Several used parts stores carry the motors

We have 2 stores like that here In Fort Wayne Indiana. Who knows I might have a motor like that in the vast collection of stuff I saved from anny broken machines

All done!

After work, I was planning to install the new gear in the timer and document it to post on here, but when I got home, my dad was just finishing the reinstallation of the timer on the Maytag. Sigh.  Anyway here are some pics I took before I closed it up. I want to THANK everyone for their suggestions and help during the process. The Maytag is just humming along!
