With the new EU energy Label on most washing machines now, I just want to know a few points.

1. Is the Energy efficiency the same scale as it was on washing machines (just A+, was originally A-10%, A++ was A-20%, A+++ was A-30%)? Or have they changed these values?
2. When is the new one have to be in use by as standard in laundry appliances?
3. How is the spin efficiently grade calculated, eg, what's the scale. 0-50% remaining moisture = A spin, 50-60% = B spin? How does it work?

Thanks in advance. I will be interested to know what you think.

1 - Exactly that, each plus on the washing machine scale is a reduction of 10% of the "A class" energy use.
2 - The new label is compulsory since 1-1-2012, old stock can still be sold with the old label.
3 - Spin efficiency is calculated based on residual moisture, as you said.
A class is less than 45% moisture, B is up to 52%, etc...

The grading for cleaning ability was removed as every machine sold must give a consistent washing quality in "A class" when used at 60°C. This doesn't apply to machines of less than 3 kg load capacity.

The tested programs are 40°C at half load and 60°C at half and full load and the results are averaged on a standard method.

Sadly rinse efficiency isn't factored yet!

Thanks very much for letting me know.
I wonder why they don't bring in rinse efficiency though, would be good to see (But bet most would fail).

This reeks of bureaucrats making themselves look busy and important. But of course that's what they do and we're not going to stop them.

People in Europe are actually happy of this, since the introduction of the energy label in the 90s, waste has been singnificantly reduced and my current Candy machine rinses BETTER than the old one from 1994 that replaced!
Of course this isn't sadly true for all makes! The whirlpool I have in Bologna is the worst offender ever as foam will linger in the tub till the last rinse everytime!
