Hey all, I've been meaning to ask this question for such a long time but only had the courage to do so now.
This might sound a little odd, but for years I've always wanted to know why there's a circle shaped disc in the middle of the drum? Is there a specific name for this? (Up and till now I've always called this the belly button) Of course, I know there is a rod behind the drum which is attached to the rim and the rubber belt is mounted on the rim to help the drum move round which the belt is also attachted to the motor. Now this is where it might get a little weird, for years I have always been fascinated not only with washing machines but the detailing of its drum. The bigger the drums belly button, the better, hence why I love the Bosch Series aka Bosch V695. Though the biggest "belly button" yet is the Constructa K4fs 100. (Click on the link below) Ever since a child, I've always looked at the drums belly button to identify if the drum was unbalanced. If the drum is unblanced the belly button circle would quiver or shake side to side. If the drum is balanced the belly button circle would stay centre whilst it spun smootly. Through out the years, they've come in different shape and sizes. For example, Hoover drums always had the belly button size of a two pence with a dot in the middle, Hotpoint's were slightly bigger and so on... Most drums stayed consistent through out the 70s/80s/90s, until machines like Hoover and Hotpoint drums have now changed. So if anyone can help answer the above question, I'd be grateful. Also look forward to your comments, co's surely I ain't the only person to have this appreciation? Thanks for reading guys, Hass CLICK HERE TO GO TO thelaundrylab's LINK |

i think (but dont quote me on this ) that the reason its like that is to do with the spider on the back of the drum (agian im a bit unsure) |

I believe that this is referred to as the HUB, as in the central point of a wheel, propeller, or, in this case, the tub. |
