Hi guys,

Here's some pics of a machine from New Zealand that arrived this morning.

It's a 1970's 'Leonard' by Fisher & Paykel. Many of our UK members will be very familiar with this design. It's basically a UK Hotpoint top loader with the 1000rpm spin speed with the filter flo.

Interesting way i got this......through a recent 'liaison'....while chatting about my hobby he said his ex was in NZ at that time tidying up his mother's deceased estate. So, upon seeing the machine i decided to get it. The machine itself cost me nothing, just the cost of transport to Australia.

Working very nicely. The only issue seems to be a squeaky brake.

Full video to follow.

First pic....before being unwrapped

Cheers
Leon

Hi Leon,

Congrats on your recent find..I have to say the lid, tub & agi looks very similar to that of the early Hotpoint's here in the UK.

Regards
Keith

It sure looks like most Hotpoint Toploaders we had here the motor and gearbox etc underneath are identical to UK Hotpoints.

I have to agree with keith its a Hotty for sure...!

Hi Leon, glad its arrived safely and is working fine, yes it is based as you say on the first series of Hotpoint UK Toploaders the 1500 series. The only difference appears to be no heater - love the temp sensed fill and the ability to set the incoming water, get it cranked up I say!!

Heres a piece on its design, Hotpoint had its own design consultancy led by Oliver Hill...

Individual detail such as recessed hose connections and drain pipe, the controls are very simple but functional, easy to view and select.

Fascinating Mike...

Hi Mike

VERY interesting read. I'm pretty sure the '480' model was the one with the heater.

I found it intersting how it fills to the outer tub with the water coming up through the inner tub rather than being sprayed onto the clothes.

LOVE the 1000 rpm spin too!

Leon

Hey Leon, CONGRATS!   What a neat find!    I see the cabinet dimensions are fairly small, what is the capacity?

Cheers!
