Okay, I was browsing dishwashersinfo.com and noticed a GE dishwasher having just the same tub as my German(?) Bomann - minus the exposed heater. There are several brands of dishwashers that have this tub. Even a UK Hotpoint featured in a recent thread had is design. Where do these come from?

indesit companies dishwashers say "made in EU" on the ratings plates, so the parts must come in for them from China |

Lovely promotion video, indeed! "The baskets wobble"..."the fold-down shelves feel flimsy". Is that how they try to sell it? HAHA! But yes, these are crappy units. And to make matters worse, our particular models is programmed so that no cycle has an interim rinse. This is what the water looks like for the beginning of the final rinse. Crystal clear results are guaranteed - not. The only solution is to start a new 80 minutes Quick cycle after the main wash is done.

Brastemp, Electrolux, GE, Midea, Speed, Philco, Westpoint, Hotpoint, Ariston, Indesit, Eslabón de Lujo, Fagor, Gafa and a few more brands in Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. To be more exact, nearly all dishwashers in my region are exactly the same crap. |

In remodeling a 60's ranch for resale, our contractor chose this GE model as it is a tad shorter than the norm... Out of almost 100 models available at BrandsMart, this was the least expensive stainless that would fit in the existing cavity... Otherwise, the countertops would have to be raised... From the front, it looks like all the rest... You don't see the difference until you open it...

Bonferraro is NOT in Emilia Romagna :) I meant SMEG is but the actual factory is in the Verona province in Veneto (not so far). Hey, three messages in a row... I promise I'm stopping :) |

I think some TOL Indesit/Hotpoint dishwashers are made in China too. Incidentally the Candy and Indesit compact dishwashers are also Chinese origin too. |

And as I said mine is made in Italy, I guess it's a question we'll never be able to totally put in light! :) |

My sister has a slimline Whirlpool, made in China, and it is the spitting image of the Indesit slimline. Heater is hidden though. |

These machines are sold by GE here in the states and were also sold as Whirlpool so as to offer an ADA (Americans with Disabilites Act) compliant machine. Because of their smaller size (height) they fit under lowered counters. There are many of these installed in new office buildings, etc. that must comply with the ADA regulations.
There is one (GE) in a building that we do that is a source of constant complaints for it's washing ability, capacity and all-around cheap quality construction. The owner mentioned it once and hadn't realized that it was specified by the architect for it's ADA Compliance but then recalled that the GE slide-in range had to be custom fitted in the lower height counters and lower panel parts had to be ordered to make it fit. Hobbled by extremely hard water, the dishwasher looks like it's 20 years old when you open it, covered in white film and scale. But that's not the machine's fault. For parts sourcing resources, Alibaba.com is an interesting site to poke around, you'll find many of the parts used in dishwashers all over the globe and and see the company and factory of origin. Nearly all manufacturers source parts from China and other Asian countries. The link is to dishwasher pumps but you can search for anything related to kitchen and laundry appliances and get a feel for how "global" most machines really are.
