Auction ends next Sunday 19 th August. Its in great condition and I'll be sad to get rid, but baby on the way and haven't got room for it.

Nice range too!

Looks a tidy example, good luck with the auction. I would also like the Rayburn? range behind it lol. I have something similar but made in Austria but it's not as good for cooking as my old '50s Rayburn I had in Scotland.

Thanks

Well spotted - it's a Rayburn royal from the 60s running on solid fuel(anthracite). Definitely not for sale!! Only put it in a couple of years ago and we love it. All our friends think we are strange as we do have gas but went for coal. It's slightly cheaper to run and was much cheaper to buy but mainly I just like messing with real fires!
Was the range you mention a tirolia by any chance? Or wamsler?

No, mine is a Windhager. The problem is the thin metal used for the hob surface. It cools down quickly so you need to keep a good fire going to get your spuds to boil. The Rayburn has much thicker cast iron for the hob and retains the heat so it always seems ready for cooking. On the Windhager there is something like a car starting handle that raises the grate up so the flames lick the underside of the hob. It also does my central heating. I'm not sure if a Royal would have enough boiler capacity to heat a 3 bedroom house. I think my Rayburn was the smaller Regent model but I didn't use the back boiler on that one, I replaced it with firebricks.
