There are several ways to search craigslist and I find it's best to use them all in order to make sure all the bases are covered. One thing you'll want to do is use every appropriate search term you can think of, though not all at once, of course. For example, if I were to search for a vintage Maytag A700, I would search for “craigslist vintage maytag”, “craigslist retro maytag”, “craigslist older maytag” and so on. I might try actually using the term “craigslist A700”, but most sellers don’t seem to list things by model number so I seldom bother. I even found one listed as “really cool washer” once, so you have to try to imagine how people unfamiliar with these older machines would describe them. Another trick is to search for machines using colors that you know were used on the older models, like pink, and yellow, or turquoise, so that you’d be searching for “vintage pink washer” or “pink washer”, then repeat the search using the term “vintage pink washing”, and so on. Then it helps to repeat your searches using different search engines. The exact same search terms will often yield different results on one search engine than they do on another. Another trick is to eliminate common unwanted results by subtracting them from the search, for example, if I’m looking for a vintage automatic washer, I don’t want a lot of wringer washers showing up in my search results. In such cases my search would look like “craigslist vintage washer –wringer –ringer –roller”. In case you’re wondering, people misspell wringer a lot, so you have to remove the misspelling from your search as well. I hope that helps.

I use Search Tempest, lets you search as narrow or as wide distance wise as you'd like.

My Tip

Use Google Advanced Search!

Type in the details given above, then down below are some search options. Type in "craigslist.org" and you should get some pretty decent results!

It looks like jaXed has a cease and desist order from craigslist.

I also don't see a category on jaxed for appliances or household items.
