Someone from the Carnegie Museum contacted me and is looking for a Westinghouse Freeze-file refrigerator. If anyone has one, it is a chance to put a piece in a museum, and I assume they pay.
Thanks, Matt

After seeing your picture, I want one too :)

This listing is from October, not sure if it is still available:

Sometimes. More often than not they're looking for donors in our experience. They tout the tax-deduction and that your name will be on file as the donor for posterity. Well, posterity, or until they decide they've had enough and contact someone to sell it and other things like it to. We've cleaned out collections that were donated as permanent fixtures from a couple of museums.

Great.

Now I want one, too. That's a Westy I sure didn't know existed.

I have only seen one, I don't think they are common. Thanks for the info on your experience with museums, Chuck, good to know.

There was one of these on the Pittsburgh craigslist a few years back in good shape for a low price, I still wish I would have bought that freezer

We had a later version of this. Semi-auto defrost. You had to flip a switch which reversed the refrigeration cycle and heated the cold coils. Then flip it back, which I forgot once. [forehead slap]
