Anyone have the washer/dryer combo to go with this unit?

Well, up until a couple of months or so ago before he finally got it going, Paul might have taken you up on that offer. His Hubby might still be good with the idea... LOL!

That's a nice collection of electric sinks you got there. The big GE unit looks just like Paul's and hopefully he will join in here with some helpfull pointers. What's the story on them? (If you already posted them earlier, I'm sorry!)

Very nice collection and you got the last of the plastic impeller GEs with the light lens that changes color to let you know the stage of the cycle by the color in the lens. The timer dial has circular color inserts and a c-7 bulb below the dial for the light show. What a shame that with all of that display, they could not compare with the stainless steel impeller machines in performance.

The way the surface units are offset to the left of the oven gives space for the plug-in griddle to the right of the surface units. Be sure and ask about the griddle. They might just have it somewhere. The stainless steel countertop is very nice.

GE Kitchen Center (Pic #2)

That's a neat configuration for the GE kitchen center. It looks as if it could have accomodated one of the 30-inch ovens...

Do ask about the griddle! If you ever need any information about installing one of these, please do let know - I learned a few lessons about them the hard way.

The dishwasher in this unit is pretty easy to work on - I hope the tub gasket is in good shape. If not, it's an easy fix!

I am anxious to see more about the Hotpoint in picture 3!

Great scores, Graham!!

Very nice Graham, congrats!

What brands are they (for those of us who don't know)? Obviously #2 is a GE, but what are #1 and #3?

Thanks!
Kevin

Amazing, just amazing! You do have a knack for finding some rare stuff. Will you install the GE kitchen?

Kevin, #1 is a GE and #3 is a Hotpoint. Now the question about #1 is; does it have the Calrod heater in the bottom? They did that just before going to the style DW seen in #2.

Hi Graham,

It is good to see someone else that is interested in preserving the Electric Sinks, as I am.

I would love to see more photos looking into the dishwasher of the GE Electric Sink especially. Slide the control knob off of the front of the dishwasher, then the front panel should come off by grasping the bottom of the panel and pulling straight out. Tabs at the top of the panel slide into slots in the frame when replacing the panel. If the panel is snug or stubborn in coming off, you may need to tap the bottom of the panel from inside. Please show photos of the motor/timer mechanism underneath the dishwasher. I know these machines inside and out, so don't be shy about asking questions about repairs, operation, etc. Look for the presence of a detergent cup on the front tub, upper right center. Look for complete racks including the center glass tray - part of the upper rack. Look for an impeller in good condition (new impellers are practically non-existent). Look for a drain plug to the right of the impeller. Test the water flow through the water valve - they often times plugged up over year of use. The black tub gasket around the top of the tank is the biggest cause of water leakage along the outside of the dishwasher tank denoted by white calcium deposit trails.

There is a serial number plate on the GE Electric Sink frame below the sink bowl. The first two digits of the Serial Number indicate the build year. If the serial number begins 48 or 49, then there won't be a Calrod. If the year is 50, 51, or 52, then there should be a Calrod.

Even though I have 2 Hotpoint Electric Sinks, and 4 undercounter Hotpoint Dishwashers, I don't have sufficient knowledge to speak about them. (New impellers are practically non-existent).

Mike

If I remember correctly,

Under the sink is the circuit breaker panel for the whole thing as well as the hot and cold water manifolds and the drain connection. Once the unit was positioned and leveled, it only took one electrical connection and one hot, one cold and one drain connection to have all of the parts working. The internal plumbing & wiring are all done at the factory for you. You plug the parts together like the countertop to the base cabinets.

Sorry for being MIA

The story of these amazing finds is sad but a reality we must all face as the only caring individuals for these great pieces... The war generation is dying out fast and no one wants these except for the bold and brave...each one of these items was acquired from a person that was either gutting, tearing or renovating a house that was bought at auction from an elderly person that passed. It is sad but true...we do not have much time so please hunt out these treasures...all these came from craigslist...think of all the finds at estate sales and such!!!!

WOW Graham glad you saved these machines and it is so true about these cool older appliances disappearing fast, but they are still out there, it is amazing what we have found in just the last years or so.
