I've been looking at the toploaders of today and would really like to get a SQ, but I'm afraid of the grease issue in the tub that they have been having. I don't care for the new Whirlpools or the GE hydrowave. I like the SQ because it is still like an old fashioned toploader.

buy the speed queen

mine did not have the grease problem, but if it had I would have ran an empty load with hot water and detergent. I love my speed queen. if I had bought another brand I would have been disappointed.i raised the water level and disabled the lid switch, now I am in washer heaven.

Buy the Speed Queen

My brother just bought the AWN542 last month and did not have this issue. Run an empty machine of hot water and detergent through the machine before use.

I wouldn't worry about the "Grease"

It was actually polishing compound left from finishing the tub.  A hot wash with a strong detergent would clean it right out.  Also only a limited number of machines came this way and it in no way affected the lifespan or performance.

It is not Grease

It is just polishing compound and it has yet ever cause a problem for anyone that bought a new SQ washer.
