Hello all,

I have a 1984 Kitchenaid Imperial KD21 Dishwasher that works great. Only problem is the upper rack wheel axles(I think this is the right term) on the inside of the dishwasher have corroded. I have tried to order replacement parts from Sears and another website, but both have returned my payment because they no longer manufacture them. I found one on ebay for around 15 bucks, but I need 3 more for the rack to function correctly any smoothly. Any advice on where to look or if I can find more? I really just need the part around the bolt, help with what that is called would be appreciated as well.

Erin

inside of dishwasher where part is located

you can see the first nub the wheel and axle are completely removed, the second one the wheel axle is coming off.

Nice machine.  It's 100% Hobart from the looks of it.  Have you tried contacting Hobart for parts? The "Free Stuff" section on Craigslist for a Kitchenaid of similar vintage for a parts machine?  Lots of KD21's have been showing up there lately, but you can probably choose from earlier and later models for the parts you need.

Steve T. is our resident Hobart SME here so let's see if he chimes in.

Forget about contacting Hobart!

Sorry to rain on this parade but Hobart sold KA to Whirlpool in 1986. They have absolutely nothing to do with anything they used to make except if the parts like seals and some gaskets are the same as what is used today and even they are disappearing little by little.

Like I have said in other threads, most Hobart employees don't even know that Kitchenaid was once part of Hobart unless they are really informed or have been told.

You even have to be careful how you word your inquires or purchases with them. If the part is still available, just buy it. Don't tell them it's for a KA machine. they often refuse to sell it to you. Messed up, yes!

I am always willing to help you find a part so feel free to ask.

First the rain and now your silver lining

I have the 4 wheels that you are looking for and they are brand new. Email me and we can discuss the particulars.
Certainly was a crappy design they went to especially considering how heavy duty the predecessors were!

Thanks for your help guys! I looked on "free stuff" on craigslist, didn't see much. I didn't contact hobart, I didn't find much to choose from with their parts. Steve, I'll be emailing you shortly. :)
