Or how to determine where it is set, since the stem is broken flush with switch face ?
Thanks!

Thanks!

I saw that already, but thanks!
I have to test the dryer before I buckle under to buying an over-priced, used part--
Ouch?! He knows what he has, but I can wait...I am not that desperate, hah?!

You can tell what it is set to by either checking the dryer exhaust temperature or checking continuity between the temp switch AH terminal to the line side of each of the three thermostats to determine which one has been selected. If the wiring diagram tells you which thermostat is which (probably doesn't), you could just check continuity on the back of the temp switch.

Yes, way overpriced. Patience. Also, ask around this website for crossover PN's, Whirlpool/Kenmore may have 2 or 3 or more switch PN's that can all be used. Post a picture of the dryer and console, it may jog some memories.

Owners manual might give some insight.

It has a separate thermostat for each of the three heating temps (high, med, low) per the parts diagram.  The LE5790XP I have has two heat choices instead of three, and has only one thermostat with a bias heater on it to trick it into reading the lower temp.

That was an engineering redesign which came into play at some point after the K series ... using one thermostat with the bias heater instead of multiples.  My 1991 KitchenAid dryer has three heats but also just one thermostat.
