I spent all of last week at my Mom's house. I finally got around to fixing up the dryer that matches the washer I rebuilt for her in 2011. The LAT9800AAW. That was the long post of the machine I swapped the transmissions around. Anyway, here's what happened.
Pic 1: Guts out and cleaned. Pic 2&3: Front tumbler glides. I didn't replace these because they didn't look too bad. What do you guys think. I have new ones. I can take the front off and replace them when I go back if need be. Pic 4: The tumbler wheels were still good. I took out the spring washers and replaced them with mylar spacers. They won't squeal like the spring washers sometimes can. Pic 5: Guts going back in. Pic 6: Front bulkhead back on. The felt on the bulkheads was worn and cut in one spot, so since I was going to Kansas City anyway, I went to Marcone Supply and got new felt seals, a new idler wheel, and a cycling thermostat. I suspected the stat was bad and Drew and Mark confirmed it for me. I didn't want to just go buy it w/o being sure. That thing was around $43.00. It's got five wires attached to it and practically runs the whole dryer. I guess that's why it's so expensive. I had bought a new belt and filter for it 3 years ago, so there's $200.00 + wrapped up in this thing. Didn't think it was going to be that costly. Pic 7: I took the front panel off the old girl. She hadn't been looked at for three years. She was fine. Just a fine spray of turbine oil had spun out from the tub bearing. I wiped her all down and put her front back on. Pic 8: Here's the dryer directly across the room, just two steps away from the washer. Now too bad of a set up. We spun the deep freeze around which made more room for the dryer and some clothes baskets on the side. It's the first time in my Moms life that she's had a matching laundry set. She was pleased with the way everything looked. I guess some day they will belong to my sister, as she plans to live there after Mom and Dad are gone. Who knows - The washer and dryer may out live her. CLICK HERE TO GO TO beekeyknee's LINK |
