I found a machine I want, but it's in Florida! Does anyone have any packing and shipping recommendations? I've never freighted anything before, but I don't have time to drive 1000 miles to get this one!

It's been several years, but I was satisfied with You-Crate (or was it U-Crate?).

There's also a go-to girl who transports machines for members here frequently.  I don't remember her name or how to get in contact with her, though.

I'd highly recommend Jackie - hopefully she'll be picking up a dishwasher for me in South Carolina soon....

Jackie is a delight, very nice and conscientious about securing the machines and padding/covering to prevent damage.

She is by herself so will probably need some help navigating 300+ pound machines around, so you should be prepared to help.

She brought the Philcos up from DC for me! I fed her a homemade meatloaf dinner. She had seconds !

She was here yesterday to drop off a dishwasher.

She had someone's washer and dryer in there. I think it was a frigidaire dryer and speed queen washer. I sure wanted to uncover them and get a good peek but I didn't. There was a third machine there too but I'm not sure what it was.

She will go from the West coast to the East coast and everywhere in between! She picked up a machine here in Los Angeles and took it to John in the Baltimore/Washington DC area.

So I'm sure she'll go to Florida too.

Call her, or better yet send her an email with the details about it so she can respond.

just my experience with U-Crate...

With a machine as rare as this UC may not be the best shipper. .. once had item arrived just placed in box no padding whatsoever. ..it was not damaged but...Creighters & Freighters as I recall was expensive with another item I purchased. . But TOTALLY padded wrapped, wrapped again, then put on custom pallet. Unless Jackie can help you I personally wouldn't trust any shipper that won't treat this with the utmost care. That's just my 2 cents...Robert

For anything you want to arrive almost 100% certain well packed, crated and with some certainty of undamaged go with C&F. Yes, they cost dear but you get what you pay for. After my disaster with another highly recommended service that delivered my virtually NIB AEG set with damage I won't bother with anyone else but C&F for long distance hauling. Locally there is always U-Ship for something one or two states away, but again you have to very careful and prices there are creeping up as well.

Aside from those two options the only other *safe* route is go and fetch the thing yourself. But then again when you consider so many factors including the cost of one's time C&F may still come out ahead.
