I've probably droned on about it before, but I really missed the old GE V12 dryer that was the only dryer I ever remembered using. It was, I believe, a 1964 model and it only got decommissioned in 1998...
But I digress... At the November 8th auction in Queensbury, I had my pick of several GE dryers. I chose this one!

I was drawn to this for one big reason - the manual two-heat selection! I like automatic drying, but there are times that you just want to know that something delicate is getting just low heat, what can I say...
My guess at the auction was that this was 1962 model. I was right - it's a model 1DA610W3W.
Not bad overall condition. Note the plate shielding the opening where a higher-end model would have had a drum light! This was just what I remembered from the one I grew up with.
Anyway, I made the time to give this baby a 120v test. The results are mixed - the motor started up right away and ran smoothly and big bonus - the timer still seems to advance. BUT... the drum does not rotate. The dryer rattled like a crate of radiators on a cobblestone road (which I kinda expected) but no real movement from the drum. It could be a bad belt or maybe the drum is not seated on the rollers. I'll know for sure when I open it up, but that won't be happening for some time to come now. If I tear into anything this winter, and you heard it here first, it'll be the 57 GE Filter Flo... No, really... |

It could be a match for Robert's WA-757; several dryers would match it although these lower end models lack a few of the trim decorations that the 700 series have such as one, count it, one chrome trim strip on the bottom of the front panel. It's closer match would have been a washer in the 600 series. |
