I was searching Craigslist the day after Thanksgiving and spotted this Frigidaire LC-3 unit from 1975. The listing was 17 days old by the time I found it, so I didn't have high hopes that it was still available. I later noticed that someone had previously posted the listing for this machine in the Shoppers Square forum. After inquiring about it, the seller got back to me and said "It's in my garage waiting for you". So off to Lanark, IL to go pick it up which is almost a 2 hour drive from me in the Chicago suburbs.
The people I got it from recently bought the house that the machine was in. They said this machine was in the master bedroom closet since they bought the house. The people who lived in the house before them were older and bought this machine so they wouldn't have to go up and down the stairs to use the machines in the basement. (There were no older machines in the basement by the way!) I paid the $40 asking price and got it all carefully loaded up and wrapped in a furniture pad for the ride home. It cleaned up well even though it was pretty clean to begin with. I've yet to try it out yet and the previous owners said they never bothered trying it either. Notable problems are the lint filter is shot, the plastic frame is melted and broken in two pieces, so a lot of lint got past it over the years and completely plugged the blower motor and flex hoses inside the unit. I've yet to take it apart to thoroughly clean that. The "Agitub" is also being pulled off to one side, perhaps a spring came detached. It was like that when I first looked at it and have yet to investigate the issue there. As a fan of GM era Frigidaire appliances, I was happy to add one of these to my small collection. It's one of those machines I'd look at in my brochures and wonder if any were still left... Being the Poppy (or Terracotta?) color was a plus since finding a machine in this color was on my want list. |

Great! Congrats!
This model was made starting in 1976 (well, probably in 1975 too but was identified as a 1975 model). If it's a 1976-77, it's color is described as "Red". Then, the rest of the Frigidaire line still had the shaded color then but the Laundry Centers and GMini washers had the non-shaded colors that were simply called copper, gold, green and red! When the rest of the line got rid of the shaded colors too (that happened in for the 1978 models probably somewhere in 1977) the solid colors were renamed Coffee, Wheat, and Terra Cotta (Avocado lost the shading but didn't change it's name!), that's also when "Almond" was introduced on some appliances.
If you have the serial numbers for your machine, we could date it with it...
Here's the color chart for 1975 Laundry Centers.

The lint filters for these dryers are still available from Frigidaire. They aren't made of Dacron like the originals but they're better than a broken one! (and that seems to be quite often the case with the original filters!).
My GMini dryer had the same problem, half of the blower wheel was packed with lint. It was so unbalanced that the dryer was walking on the floor!

Thanks guys!
Phil, thanks for the great info on the colors and also for providing the link for the replacement lint filter. I will go ahead and order one of those. My original filter not only broke, but the majority of the frame has melted too. I like seeing that the replacement also has a yellow frame like the original. I don't think my machine had any air flow which is why it probably overheated and melted the frame. The blower wheel is completely packed and the inside of the lint filter housing was completely jammed. I don't think the original owners ever emptied their pockets or removed tags from new clothes! All of that kind of stuff was inside the filter housing along with the lint... |

i always wondered what kind of agitator was in these smaller/compact frigidaires?? i wondered if they had the "thumper" type of agitation. but i guess not?? can't wait to see a video of this washer in action. i would like to see how that agitator works & moves the clothes & water. ;o) |

Christina, I made a few videos of my Frigidaire GMini which is the stand-alone washer version of the Laundry Center. The mechanism is quite unique as the tub and agitator are a single unit that agitates together (GM called this mechanism "Agitub")
Here are the links to the videos I made. www.google.com/searchQUESTIONMARK... |

thank you for the link of the videos that you made of your frigidaire gmini, so that i could see the "agitub" in action.
you know, i thought that the agitator & tub didn't look like 2 separate pieces?? that's why i wondered how the agitator worked. but WOW! the whole tub agitates?? what a trip! in your videos, the water seems to move the clothes around more than i would have thought, being that the agitator and the tub are all one piece. thank you for posting the links to your videos philr. :o) |
