Hi guys. Not posted in a while. I've got the following machine being delivered on Tuesday morning. I've had my beko for three years now and feel it's time for a change. I do have to say the beko has been faultless and it's never missed a beat and it's going to a good home. My brothers which will replace his 6 year old Indesit.

I thought I would give hotpoint a second chance seeing as they are now doing a ten year warranty on their newer machines.

Pics of my machine will follow on Tuesday and will try and upload a video of the wash action and the steam functions

Nice machine. I'm sure you will like it. I hope you don't need to make use of their 10 year warranty. Please remember there is a £109 labour charge with this 10 year parts warranty. I'm happy with my 7 month old Hotpoint Smart 9KG washing machine, apart from the time it developed an F05 fault and refused to do anything. Apparently the engineer thought it was because the machine was being overloaded. I now take care not to overload it. The I only gripe I have is that it can be rather sensitive when spinning and fusses so much when it comes to spinning. I'm not used to Indesit/Hotpoints that I've used before being like that, but I guess it is a 9kg one so it needs to make sure it doesn't damage itself when washing very large, heavy 9kg loads. Good luck with your new machine.

Oh no. I'm hoping it's not gonna be too fussy with the spin cycle. That's the only thing with the direct drive. I had an LG washer years ago that was a 1400 spin and I think it only ever reached full speed twice in that time. As for the ten year warranty it'll be changed before then lol. I get bored easily plus I repair appliances as my job so labour isn't an issue

I saw these on the UK Facebook group a few months back! Certainly a stylish looking machine, I hope it all works on for you Rob.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on these. Some of the info suggested that the cottons 40 cycle took 5 hours to complete and there was no inbetween cycle - just a quick wash and a ridiculously long cottons wash.

Hi. I was a bit shocked at the wash times but there is a time saver button and there are a few wash programmes that'll be used a lot. The steam is a bit of a let down. It just drops water into the bottom of the machine enough to cover the element and that's how the steam works. It's got a pump in the bottom of the machine to circulate the soap and water and makes it into a foam. It's not as fussy on spin as I thought and it's pretty quiet

It's got a 1400 spin which is great. Ten minutes but to do one rinse and spin is 49 minutes. As much as I loved my beko the only downside with the beko was rinsing. It never seemed to rinse all the soap out regardless of how little powder I put in. The hotpoint rinses really well.

Funny you should say that Rob, I found the rinsing to be excellent on the Beko my partner had. Infact, it was one of the best rinsing modern machines I've used. I'd go so far as to say it rinsed better than my Miele. Although the Miele was the better machine overall, hence we kept it when we moved in together.

Out of interest, how long is a normal cottons 40 cycle with no options selected?

Hiya. Normal cotton cycle is 3hr 20 minutes which will never be used.
As for my beko it used loads of water to rinse but still always seemed to have soap in the water. To be honest I really miss the machine. Could do I 60 degree wash with 1400 spin in 61 minutes. It was the 7kg machine but I really had to stuff the duvet in which is why I've changed the machine as I wash it every week. Touch of ocd plus my dog sleeps on my bed a lot.

You wash the duvet every week? Wow, that's dedication! I do ours twice a year, despite the cat sleeping on the bed with us (I do have to hoover the duvet cover down before it goes in the wahsing machine though!) . My Miele is only a 6kg though, so I do have to take it to the laundrette. Maybe next time I'll opt for a larger capacity for that very reason :)

Yup every week lol. I shampoo the bedroom carpets every month. Vacuum three times a day. The dreaded ocd doesn't let you rest. I wash my mattress every few months and you'll be surprised what comes out of it. Vacuum it every week as well. I worked out earlier on I'm on my 26th washing machine in 23 years. In all that time I've never had one breakdown.

Hi Robbie, looking forward to the reviews, sounds like you can put it through its paces, does it do a "Spin Only"...
I know a lot of these machines can be iffy for small loads spinning.

Hiya Mike
I'm on wash load number ten since Monday lol. So yup it's going through its paces. It does have a spin only cycle which takes ten minutes. It's not as fussy as I thought. It'll spend about a minute trying to balance if it's a small load but it's always done the full 1400 spin no problems. The beko was the same speed and it spun excellent and so does this.
I would still swap it for an old hotpoint 800 electronic any day though lol

Oh, I vacuum and flip the mattress every week. We've always done that. My brother has very bad asthma so one of the things the nurse suggested my Mum do was vacuum and flip the beds each week, so it's always been part of our weekly routine.

I aim to wash all the carpets in the house twice a year. I don't suffer with OCD, I'm just clean lol.

I suppose at least owning so many washers has given you a very broad experience. Are there any machines you've had that stand out as being particularly good or particularly bad?

How many vacuums have you managed to get through in all that time?

The best washers I've had have been the early hotpoints 80's and early 90's. Hot and cold fill and quick with great results. My first washer when I was 17 was my hotpoint top loader. It cost me 45 and I loved it.
Worst washer I bought was the Indesit model w123. Lasted 13 months from new before it broke. The board burnt out and the timer kept turning on its own. Managed to replace the board with a second hand one then a few months later the motor went. Again replaced it with a second hand one. Then got rid of it and replaced it with a second hand hotpoint Aquarius which cost me 15 quid. That machine was on three or four times a day seven days a week for over four years and never broke. Give it my aunt and she had it three years before she give it away to a friend and it lasted just over another year. Total bargain for fifteen quid. I bought it as being sold with a bearing problem and it was only a bra strap stuck in the drum.

I do also repair washers it's what I trained for back in my YTS days.
Vacuum's I've been quite lucky with. My current is a vax upright 2000 watts and it's over three years old now and no problems not even a belt gone. I think it's how you use things and basic maintenance and they last

Hi robliverpool, does your model have the recirculation spray at the top? Im aware that some s-line models have the recirculation spray for faster wash times and for the eco setting

Hi. It doesn't have it at the top on my model it's under the outer drum at the bottom and it basically turns the powder into a foam.

As far as I know none of the Hotpoints have a recirculating jet. The "Direct injection" feature advertised is purely they way Paul describes, similar to Samsung's Eco bubble function.

I'm glad you are enjoying your new machine Paul. A bit disappointing to see it doesn't have the wave paddles like the Aqualtis but it's still a good looking machine. I did consider a hotpoint briefly when I was looking for a new washer but went for a Zanussi Lindo instead.

The only Hotpoint washing machines with the 'eco rain' feature are the 10kg models with the black door. Models being the RPD10667DD and RPD10477DD.

The other ultima s line models just have direct injection which is basically a foam generator as said above.

From an environmental point of view, as you wash rather frequently, maybe consider something that will last longer ?

This household had had 2 Mieles since 1985 and that's it. They've been used *heavily* too and normally stuffed to capacity.

They definitely last at least 15 years. The machine we "got rid of" now lives in the garage and still works. I was doing a laundry room refresh and decided to go with the W1 & T1

They're more expensive initial outlay but, unless you're changing them out of boredom, they're much cheaper over their lifetimes.

If you consider that I spent maybe €1500 on a washer that's going to last me at least 15 years, that's at most only €100 a year. If I spend €500 on something that lasts 2 years that's €250/year.

They're also just wonderful machines with every option you could possibly think of and produce excellent results.

I'm big Eco geek tho and into lifetime costs and minimising environmental impacts though! I don't like this disposable major appliance culture we have these days. I make a big effort to minimise my impact though, including cycling when I can and I've a plug-in hybrid car.

I'm also making the house as efficient as possibly bit by bit. Major insulation projects done, solar in to at least partially deal with not water load (you can still need gas here in Ireland due to cloud cover and short days in winter), heat recovery ventilation (installed most of it myself which was a fun project.)

My De Deitrich induction job is going since 1997 and still looks and behaves like new. Oven by the same manufacturer is over 10, looks new and runs every day to make something. I bake a lot..

I'll be doing a kitchen refresh soon but I'm loathed to dump perfectly functioning, well maintained, still good looking stainless steel appliances for the sake of it.

Likewise my upstairs and downstairs vacuums are years and years old. A pair of Mieles from the mid 90s and they still work perfectly. Robust, well designed powerful and simple machines.

My aim really is to ensure that by the time I'm in my 60s (long way off) that my house will be very cozy and will have minimal energy overheads. I'm self employed, so it's always just been something I consider a way of ensuring I'm not being crippled with high energy bills in my retirement.

Hi there. I do try and do my bit for the environment but I also do like to change my appliances and keep up with the trend. Usually when I buy a new machine my old one has always gone to a much needed home where it has been needed. My old appliances never end up in a tip. In my home I use low energy lighting I drive a brand new fuel efficient diesel car. If I would have been driving a 15 year old car I can't see it being as efficient as my new one so I do try and be as friendly to the planet as one possibly could be

What a lovely looking machine. Well done on getting one of these.

I do like the more expensive models on the Hotpoint line. I have the 9kg Smart model and I am more than happy with its performance, its lovely and quiet on the wash - almost virtually silent and isn't too bad on spinning. I'm glad to hear that your machine is not sensitive on the spins like mine is.

I do love the Eco Rain feature and I miss this on the AEG/Zanussi's I have had over the years. The AEG we used to have used to spin 3 times full of water when on the Cottons Rinse to drive water through the clothes with the Jet on. It was dependent on how absorbent the load was, if it wasn't absorbent, the machine would not perform the 3 spins on the rinse. Was a cool feature.

I wish you many happy years use with your machine and thank you for posting the photos. I'd love to see Youtube vids of your machine in action.

Hi. Thank you for your kind comments. I intend on posting some videos in the next few days. I'm really happy so far with it. It's done 23 loads in ten days. I know it's a lot for a single person but because it's a much bigger drum I can wash much bigger things lol. It's on now and all I can hear is the water in the machine it's that quiet.
