Crosley was the first fridge manufacturer to have shelves in the door introduced in the mid to late 30s I believe. Hence the name Shelvador. They had a patent on it so other manufacturers had to come up with some unique designs of their own to get around patent infringement. Philco came up with the second door of shelves behind the outer door. I believe that lasted from 1941 thru 1948.
