It is now sitting in my friends garage. Its been in use until recently and was left on the foot path for collection. I dont know if its fully functional yet, but at least its saved and here is a picture for you all to enjoy.

Here is an inside shot. Its an agitator from a later model, proper agitator should be light blue similar to the one in the model found recently by mayfan.

Love seeing those "foreign" machines! Mixtures of the familiar and different. Can you get some closer shots of the buttons and timer?

Funky looking Maytagish agitator. The fins do not appear to be flexible----is this agitator hard "bakelite" material? Interesting 'Kenmo gold color.

This machine certainly gives the operator a lot of flexibility with all those buttons! Very cool.

Hey Steve

Maybe we could do a swap???

I would love one of the older '06 or '08 Maytags just like you want a Simpson...but alas, i think the cost of freight would kill it for the both of us...!!

Very cool washer guys - you just seem to be attracting them now!

I want a top-loading washer with a heater! That would be so handy...

I like buttons!!! The panel kind of reminds me of TOL Montogomery Wards later year Norges.

Neat looking machine

Congrats on your find :)

We were lucky in AU, lid switches didnt become mandatory until 74. Before that it was up to the discretion of the manufacturer.

Hey, who needs to worry about lid safety switches when you could get chomped on by an Australian Funnel Web Spider any day of the week? (For those who don't know, Brisnat, feel free to fill 'em in with the gruesome details...)

Serious question though: Four speed. Is that referring to different agitation speeds or something else? Sounds intriguing.

How many and what kinds of programs does it have? Would you say that it washes similar to an American Maytag? The trans. in a Maytag, as i have always said(the H drive) looks like the United States, in a Simpson, it looks like a Flyng saucer.

4 on the floor

FOUR speed automatic? Holy cow! I think the most speeds we had in the US was 3 on the washers. There was a one time a variable speed Hotpoint but I think those didn't work too well.

4 Speed

Was commonly used on Westinghouse and Simpson Washers of that era.

What is usually means, is that its a 2 speed motor, and you get 2 speeds for wash and 2 speeds for spin. Therefore the logic was, you had 4 speeds :)

Funnel Web spiders are mainly located around Sydney, but yes they like to give big painful bites that can or cannot be fatal. While we have a reputation for having a large number of highly dangerous venomous spiders/snakes/etc the reality is that even when I lived in the country, you rarely came accross any of them. :) Red Back spiders which give a non fatal, but very painful bite are prevalent around the country.

Does that say S U D S !! between the two red "OFF" signs?? A Suds-return? If so how lucky.

Half-kidding, but don't you guys have Monitor Lizards, or something really big and scary down there--Gila monsters or Komodo Dragons--that can eat you right up?

Jason, we'll have to check with one of the old pro's but I think Frigidaire once made a four speed beauty, in the 60's or 70's, four spin speeds for sure, but I can't remember the number of wash speeds--I'm thinking three.

big lizards

Hi Mickey

That's a goanna. It won't eat you but they are BIG - up to a couple of metres long I think.

Here are the lyrics to a song by the Scared Weird Little Guys about all the dangerous critters here:

Deadly Animals (Come to Australia) Lyrics

Redback, Funnel-Web, Blue-ringed octopus
Taipan, Tigersnake and a Box jellyfish
Stonefish and the poison thing that lives in a shell
That spikes you when you pick it up

Come to Australia
You might accidentally get killed

Your life's constantly under threat
Have you been bitten yet?
You've only got three minutes left
Before a massive coronary breakdown

Redback, Funnel-Web, Blue-ringed octopus
Tiapan, Tigersnake and a Box jellyfish
Big shark just waiting for you to go swimming
At Bondi Beach

Come to Australia
You might accidentally get killed
Your blood is bound to be spilled
With fear your pants will be filled
Because you might accidentally get killed

Chris.

Holy Cow !

Hi Chris

More like "With feces your pants will be filled." So scary

What a treat! Tomorrow, I'll see if I can find the music and have a sing along with the crazy youngins at work.

Is Great Ocean Road on the ocean? I ask because I live on the lake.

I've also read that the best snorkeling in the world is to be had on the Great Aussie Reef.

Later, Man

Mikey

Be careful snorkeling

dangerously close to gettting into trouble

I know, I know, this is drifting way too far from the topic...

here is a link to where I live.

The Great Ocean Road (GOR) was built after the first world war as a work scheme to provide work for returned soldiers. They constructed a road along the south west coast of Victoria, the state where I live. The road starts at Anglesea and used to finish at Apollo Bay but was extended many years ago past Peterborough. It is probably the number one tourist attraction in the state. The road is in very steep terrain, with rainforest mountains on one side of the road and a steep drop to the ocean on the other side. It is spectacularly beautiful.
The road follows the coast from Anglesea to Apollo Bay, then turns inland and climbs into the Otway Ranges. When it reaches the tiny town of Lavers Hill (where I live) the road turns parallel to the coast and continues West till it contacts the coast again at Princetown, then goes to the 12 Apostles, a section of coast where erosion has left about 12 pillars of land surrounded by the ocean, they are tiny islands only a few metres across and several metres high. The photo in the middle of the linked page shows people on the beach with one of the apostles in the background.
A few years ago there was another feature nearby, "London Bridge" where erosion had formed an archway with water underneath. You could walk across the arch to a small patch of land on the other side. One day the arch collapsed, leaving a few tourists stranded on the othe side. They had to be rescued by helicopter. The slip created a "thirteenth apostle" for s few years but last year another of the apostles collapsed into the ocean. So now there are 12 again... Another feature is "the blowhole" where southern ocean currents direct from antarctic waters sweep into an inlet, through an underground tunnel and blast up into the air. (No smutty line please Toggle. Oh alright but be careful.)

I knew Great Ocean road had to be something amazing. One big live gushing holy washing machine.

Thanks so much. The only other Danieu's on this planet live in Australia. Someday I intend to go down under.

My students loved the lyrics, having grown up with the Crocodile Hunter, but we could not download the music or find the group--must be local, huh?
