All of the new front load washers that ive used have programs you must select to wash your clothes and sometimes the clothes do not get wet and need another cycle of spinning but you cannot just select spin like on the older units. You wash the complete load again and then hope that the spin cycle happens to spin the clothes the right way so theyre not wet anymore. Are there any new washers so I can set it to only spin?

Yes, the LG. Just press the power button, then select the spin speed desired and press start.

Yes.
The Maytag Maxima I have on order has a Spin/Drain cycle.
You have the option to add a rinse if you want.

Perhaps it is easier to make a list of frontloaders that don't have a spin only setting.

Ok, so am I to understand that my LG made Kenmore Elite will spin only? Because I have not ever figured out that it would.

This is valid for most models and brands.

Wake it up, don't touch thedial, select the spin speed, hit start.

And if you want to add an extra rinse, simply choose number of rinses.

On Whirlpool/Maytags there's the rinse & spin cycle-you just select no rinse as the option and you have spin only.  It says that in owners mauals.  It's a good idea to look up online user manuals for products you are interested in.

All MFG's will give you Rinse & Spin and Spin Only Cycle.
It maybe buried in the digital options programs but it's there like the tub clean cycle!

If you feel that the washer is not wetting the clothes for the main wash, start using the prewash feature of your machine. And if the load is not that soiled, just use detergent only for the main wash so you save a few cents detergent wise.

I was thinking, most all machines offer a Drain/spin option.....

some are right on the main dial, others are hidden like in the spin speed selection.....best to read your manual to know where its located...

I was intrigued by the hidden spin only everyone was talking about, so I went to my basement, turned my LG washer on and hit the spin button. I was in shock! No where in the manual does it say that it can do that! Now I wonder what else is hidden....I know about the delay button and spin speed to see how fast the drum is going and the delay temp buttons to see actual wash/rinse temps in the drum....I learned something new today!

My lg has a spin only feature. I just select power, then spin speed and then start.

My Kenmore HE3T and LG both have the dedicated "Rinse & Spin" and "Spin" only selections. I thought all front loaders had this.

Mike....Interesting to do during the final spin on your LG. (I assume yours does this also) At the beginning of the final spin hold the Delay and Wash Temp button and see what the temp is. Then check it several times during the final spin. You will notice that the temp will rise. Usually on my 4270 the temp at the end of the final spin is 80 degrees no matter what the water temp is. This is because the heater comes on during the final spin to get the clothes nice and warm.

Heater during final spin

logixx's profile picture

Have you monitored the machine's power draw during the final spin to verify that the heater comes on?

Brucelucenta-
I have the Kenmore Elite 41072 made by LG.
All you need to do is turn on the machine, move your speed dial to where you want it and hit GO. It will do nothing @ first, about 15 minutes left, it will spin...without a rinse.
I love this machine........the best washer I've ever had.

I would be highly surprised if the heater actually comes on. I mean, that would be a total waste of energy, especially with LG being such a hype following brand.

I know 2 situations I feel a slight warmth at the end of a spin cycle.
First is boilwash with a small load (thus, short low level rinses, with our AEG less then 25 minutes and only a drain-rinse-spin-rinse-spin sequence before finish).
Second is either a really well or really badly balanced load after a high speed spin cycle (especialy on the Panasonic after 8min@1400rpm and the AEG after 4min@1600rpm).

With US drums being even bigger, the actual speed the bearings have to move with (and thus the friction) are probably greater.
Further, LG uses pretty thin plastic tubs and metal rotors on their DD motors. These rotors are directly connected to the shaft, spider and drum with only metal parts. And as there is at least some induction effects on stator as well as rotor, some heat will be generated, probably then conducted\radiated onto the drum and into the clothing.

Foolfully--- What brands of front-loaders have you used that don't have a 'drain and spin' function?

heating during spin

if the washer has a pretty high spin speed, air being thrashed about inside the drum/tub will cause some heating-my little 24"2012 FL GE has a fast spin speed,i might try to take before/after temp readings to see if temp rise is significant-BTW,this washer has "spin only"position :)

I believe it is the "Steam Generator" that does the heating in the final spin.

This model does not have a steam generator. "Steam" is just the heater turning on before the actual main wash, heating up a minimal amout of water underneath the drum.

I have noticed that the clothes do seem kinda warm at the end of the final spin cycle. I thought that maybe our water was still warm enough, or after a hot wash, that there was still residual heat in the outer drum to warm the water up some. This will be my first winter with the washer and if it does heat the water/clothes in the final spin, I am going to love that since our cold water is kinda brutal cold on the hands. I know the SQ washer's cold rinse in the winter is brutally cold and taking the clothes out was quite painful to my hands, like stinging cold. I won't miss that!

The LG model in the video above is old and no longer made. These still had a TSG (Turbo Steam Generator).

I did a load of darks in my steam-less Duet today. 104F wash, two cold rinses and a long max speed final spin. Sure enough, the door glass fogged up during the spin and the clothes felt, well, not as cold as the rinse water.

Also note that LG went from calling it TrueSteam (steam generator) to just calling it Steam (heating a puddle of water underneath the drum) on the detergent dispenser.
