I had an interesting conversation with someone I casually know. She recently moved to a new place, and she commented one thing she really liked was the washer and dryer that came with the place. They might be original to that place (which is 30+ years old). Even if not, they are an old washer/dryer. Even at their age, she said they work better than the brand new washer and dryer she bought a few years ago for her last place.
Of course, a lot of people here will say: "This isn't news!" But I found it interesting that someone who appears to have little interest in appliances suddenly loves a vintage washer/dryer. (She couldn't even tell me what brand the washer and dryer are! And if I'd asked if she had photos on her smart phone, she might have used said phone to call the nice men in white coats to take me someplace with nice padded walls. LOL) Of course, I told her to keep that washer and dryer going as long as possible. (And yes, I know quality can still be bought...but realistically this woman won't ever have the budget for a front load Speed Queen or Miele.) |

would be interesting to see what kind of machines she actually has. You have essentially dangled the temptation in front of us, now we are all wondering just what this woman has to use.
WE WANT TO KNOW DAG NABBIT......HEHEHEHEHEHE |

I am frankly really curious, too. I asked (which was how I found out that she couldn't remember). Next time I see her, I'll have to ask again.
I am reminded of a period when I was in junior high I asked people about appliances... One staff member--who also couldn't remember details--signed my year book, saying he'd try to remember what sort of refrigerator he had. LOL |

Funny when I bought my Filter Flo set, the people I sold my "old" washer/dryer too asked why I was getting rid of them when there were so new. I said I wanted a vintage set. The guy that bought the washer thought I was crazy lol. He had an old washer and wanted a new one and the lady that bought the dryer actually got my idea. It's kind of rare to find people who like to use vintage appliances as daily drivers. Modern human nature is to buy new and shiny.
I've always wanted a vintage set so I'm glad I bought the GE's. But having used new machines too....I can attest from experience that not all new appliances are bad. Like anything, good decision making and research helps a lot. |

A friend of mine of 25 years posted to her Facebook page that a "my new washer and dryer were delivered this morning."
When we talked on the phone a few days later, I asked what she bought and she said "I knew you were going to ask me that, let me go look." Turns out they were Maytag top-load washer and dryer - MOL. You wrote a check, took a morning off work for delivery, used them and still you don't know?? The best part is that she's always been a "peeker", lifting the lid slightly to make sure the clothes are moving but the new washer locks the lid so no more peeking. LOL Washer-Kharma! |
