Just picked up this newer Sunbeam Vacuum coffee maker, amazingly the gasket on this is still good and it works fine. But I was wondering if there was anything I could do to prolong the life of this gasket. I rubbed it with glycerin after cleaning it up and that seemed to help. Thanks for any advice.

I too lucked out and got a good one on eBay, several others I bought I was not so lucky.  It's my daily driver.  I did adjust the timings on it, a little touchy but doable.  If you get the service manual it will tell you the proper temps and timing to switch from high to low.

Occasionally I will cut up a paper filter and place it on the bottom of the strainer basket, not sure if it really adds to the flavor, but I generally think so.  The original units had a cloth filter, so I thought why not try paper.  I also have mine set up on a timer, so I have fresh coffee in the AM when I get up.

Hope yours works well.

I coat my seals with good grade silicone grease that I get from a dive shop. It seems to help.

c30 Thermostat Adjustment

sarahperdue's profile picture
Hi Matt,

I read in one of your posts that you have adjusted the thermostats on your Sunbeam C30Cs. Have you ever adjusted a C30A? I have two C30As. I think one needs a shorter period on the high setting, and the other has a very low holding temperature. I've looked at the instructions for the C30B & C, but my pot looks a little different, and I'm not sure I understand the instructions well enough. Can you help?

Thanks,
Sarah

I have an 20A but have not adjusted it.  It's in my collection but have not used it other than to see if it works.  I opened it up and it looks much like the ones I have adjusted - two screws with nuts that have to be loosed to adjust the settings.

I know Sunbeam made a tool to adjust the setting, I'm sure they are lost to time at this point.  On the pots I have adjusted I had to loosen the nut that holds the settings in place, then use a very small screwdriver to tweak the adjustment.  Really does not need much.  I found that trying to tighten the nut back always messed up the setting, so I leave it loose.  I adjust the timing as the directions say, 10 seconds after the bowl is dry the high temp should click out, and I set the hold temp to about 170.

As was posted earlier, occasionally, for no known reason my pots will boil over if left on the warm setting. Months would go by with out a problem then I'd walk into a mess with coffee all over the counter and running down to the floor.  Solved it by simply pouring the finished coffee into an air pot.  Stays warm most of the day, and no boil over.

Good luck on adjusting the A series left me know how it turns out.  BTW how is the house coming?

boiling over...and house

sarahperdue's profile picture
Thanks Matt,

I'm trying not to kick myself for discarding my C30 that intermittently boiled over... Did it in a fit of frustration thinking one of the other two would work well. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to mess with the one I have open a bit more and see if I can get it right.

As for the house, alas, it's in a holding pattern. My sons hate it with the sheetrock out, and it doesn't make sense to replace the sheetrock until the foundation is fixed. I'm waiting on the right convergence of timber prices and weather to fund the foundation work. I'm not thrilled with the plan to clear cut most of the property, but it's the best way to fund the renovations. Meanwhile, if it falls apart before I can fix it, I'm going to buy vtg canned ham trailer, deck it out in period style and be grateful for the dirt to park it on. Thanks for asking.

My guys are in 7th and 9th grade, and this new world of high school is taking up a whole lot of time. It's fun though.

How are you and yours?
Sarah

I have always had the same issues

I love my Sunbeam vacuum pots, but indeed occasionally I encounter unexpected "volcanos". It is rare with the current pot I use.
That aside, my holding temperature is low.
Do you recall which adjustment is which?
Thanks for any info!

I've owned 4 different Coffeemaster's, one C30-A and 3 different C30-C's. I have tried to make adjustments to the thermostats and like Matt has said before, without the proper tool it's almost impossible to get the adjustments to hold. I did enjoy using these Coffemaster's when they worked properly, but I got tired of having the pot start to boil over unexpectedly and making a big mess, so I stopped using them.

I don't know if anyone else has posted this Coffeemaster repair manual, hope that it will help those of you that are still using a Coffeemaster.
Eddie
