All it really needed was a good cleaning! The pump belt seems a little worn so I'll get a new one ASAP, but I've water-tested it and so far it works with no leaks!

Before I post pictures, would anyone like to guess what it is? It's a "Deluxe", if that gives any indication...:)

Hmmmm... I'm gonna go with a Rollermatic. Does it look like the one in the old Freaky Friday?

Pump belt?

MAYTAG!

Post# 139346 , Reply# 3   7/2/2006 at 00:58 (6,508 days old) by tomturbomatic (Beltsville, MD)

Maytags did not have the word "Deluxe" anywhere; "Maytag" on the machine said it all for a company that had been making washing machines in this country since they were invented.

...and who knew a little company started in 1911 by the name of upton would own Maytag.

The word 'Deluxe' points to Frigidaire, but I think Austin has something else up his sleeve. I don't recall offhand seeing that word on any KM/WP washers, or GE.
hmmm....

C'mon, man! Reveal your latest find!

Maytag A606.

Deluxe is Austins word for meaning MOL.

My guess.

Hoover Portable Deluxe?

But what other machine in the 60s-70s vintage has a pump belt? WP/KM had 1 belt. 1-18's had one belt(?), Rollermatics had no belt. Maytags had a drive AND a pump belt.

OHHHHHH

So it might be a twin-tub... Kewl. I didn't know those had a separate pump belt.

"He even told me! How could I forget?" SLAAAAPPPPP!!!!! ;-)

Greg is right, it's a 1970's Hoover Deluxe twin-tub, with the famous Automatic Rinse! The spin tub leans to the left and it's definitely not the prettiest machine, but the mechanics underneath are in great shape, it's working 100% and is a really fun machine to play with. Unlike those damn Maytag A-50's, this one actually has a fill flume to fill the wash tub as well as the spin tub for automatic rinsing. There was no fill hose, however, so I had to improvise one with a quick-disconnect that is a perfect match. Hooks right up to the bathroom sink! I washed a load in it last night and was very impressed with both the impelleration and the water extraction.

I knew it what it was as well but had forgotten it was coming!

Congrats on a fun machine, Austin - I had so much fun playing with our neighbor's Hoover Deluxe pair when I was a kid. She was washing for a family of five and appreciated (I think) any help she had. You'll have to do the weekly washing for the whole family and report back on how much fun that is!
