Some of you guys might like this, it's one of several films on youtube GE put together for the '64 World's Fair consisting of a bunch of shorts touting such things as their All-Electric Homes, Nuclear Power, a Mobile X-Ray unit for TB, and even a new service center put in at Grand Central Station where you can drop off your GE product in the morning and pick it up on the way home from work.

Even a mobile-dispatched appliance repairman prowling the streets waiting for another GE fridge to conk out! LOL.

Awesome little film! Thanks for sharing it with us, Cory.

The plane that could take off and land vertically was very cool. The repair center for small appliances was a great idea. Back then, every small town had a fix-it guy---lamps, toasters, coffemakers, fans---he could fix it.

Unfortunately, manufacturers eventually figured out that sales, not repairs, carries the weight on Wall Street.

I'm still waiting for the flying car I was promised.

Yeah, can you imagine a bunch of repair people on the other side of that wall in Grand Central? Buffing iron sole plates, changing tubes, tweaking toaster ovens. It's so hard to believe today that it borders on the surreal!

Hmmmmm...--at the end that little lad can watch mommy's washer being fixed so he can grow up to be a professional, and being the family DIY'er on the way?

--I couldn't do that (long, long ago) hanging around the furnace being fixed...

A very fun film, thanks much for posting Cory!

Leisure World (or seizure world as some call it) is just down the road from me in Seal Beach and a neighbor on the street behind me just sold her house and moved there!

That Bell X14A must be the predecessor to the Harrier jump jet.

Yeah a small appliance repair center, for when appliances were worth repairing, not the disposable crap the build and sell today!
