A big thank you goes out to Thomas/Turamat who donated this beautiful 24 page Constructa front-loader washer brochure from 1961. I just added it to the Ephemera Library.
Of all of the European machines, the Constructa washers in my opinion are the neatest things around. It's the only front loader I've ever seen do a spin drain and from what I've seen it puts on quite the dramatic show doing this! |

I know the UK-made Phillips machines also do spin-drains. The Constructas were around earlier and were better-made, though. I think they were the first fully automatic machines we got in Europe in the late 40s/early 50s. Bauknecht made similar machines early on. |

These were wonderful machines. We had neighbours with a K4. They were a household with 9 children, so it was on all the time.
In 1960/61 the freestanding models (fs = freistehend) were introduced. A few years later the first real boil washers were introduced. A lot of older machines did spindrains, Indesit including. I guess later models stopped doing it because it asked for strong motors. I've always loved the timers with a description for every increment. |

Many thanks Robert for scanning and putting these up on the board, we never had these models here in the UK but can see they look a sturdy and well made washing machine...the first spin drain models we had where the early Indesit models and of course the later Philips washing machines, always fun to watch as the water sprayed around the door..
A big thanks out for Thomas as well for sending this brochure to AW as well for all to share.. |
