Well, my 17 yr old GE fridge finally seems to have taken a dump. Or at least it won't cool the fridge below 42 degrees mostly empty, when full it spoiled a lot of food - hitting 58 degrees before we noticed. Oddly enough, the freezer part is fine.

Anyway, we ended up with 2 more freezers, a total of 27.5 cu ft freezer space, of which the fridge freezer contributed about 2.5 cu ft. We think we can lose some freezer space to get more fridge space. Looking at our local appliance store(s) website, we like the look and style of the Whirlpool WRR56X18FW. I know it's not a top of the line anything, but may actually meet our needs and be far kinder to our budget than something more high end.

What we don't want is any sort of touchscreen, internet connectivity, or built in ice maker etc. Just a fridge, maybe with a simple top freezer if it's a big difference in quality. Are there any red flags for that Whirlpool? Any better recommendations in that sort of style and size (that is about as big as will fit)?

We've tried to get local appliance stores to service the existing fridge, but have been told it's not possible or not cost effective.

could be an easy repair

if the freezer portion is cooling well,you probably have an airflow problem preventing chilled air from the freezer section cooling the fresh food section-a frost buildup,air damper out of position,bad fan,etc. Presuming this is a frostless fridge?

We have a Frigidaire All Fridge in our kitchen. No added extras like ice/water etc.. Can't remember off hand how long we've had it.. maybe 8 years?  anyways, no problems whatsoever. Loads of room in it seeing as there's no freezer.   Also have the Frigidaire frost free upright freezer around the corner in the laundry room

the other unit is in our other home...

ps
had a chance to get a new Gibson yrs ago . It had a small freezer section in the bottom corner. Neat lookin. so when I finally decided to buy such.. Was told †hey no longer had them. Salesman said Gibson dicontinued it.. Even had the brochure for years later... had to finally get rid if the brochure cause I kept shaking my head and complaining "why did I wait so long? to finally buy?" Duh

@cfz2882

So we had this happen once before when we had the fridge full of stuff - specifically 2 large pizza boxes on the top shelf. Removed them and bam, worked. So initially after throwing out all the spoiled stuff I waited 24 hrs (settings verified to be the same, no switch knocked by food) and it cooled down to the later temps of ~44 degrees. Which is still kind of warm. I'll try and pull it out and take a look, but as a backup plan it's good to know there's no huge red flags about the Whirlpool model (so far anyway).
