Reading the warranty on the Gibson washer it says repair will be covered but owner must pay for pickup and delivery? I don't understand, are they saying they didn't do the repair in house?

I take it to mean not that all repairs are expected to require transportation to an off-site location but that that the customer pays for transportation if a repair can't be done in the home, such as major disassembly for a transmission issue.  However, the terms don't state specific repairs that require off-site servicing so the repair service could claim such for anything.

So it sounds like you're washer-less! Carting the machine out w/ likely NO LOANER...

I can see reasons why this thing sort'a died-out...

At the risk of being called down about this, these machines were the worse pieces of s--t ever made. The capacity was incredible and they washed, rinsed and spun out fairly well. But they were so flimsy and they were terrible about walking to the end of the hoses when spinning. The dryer was pitifully undersized to the washer and the puny motor would overheat on many of them quickly into the cycle and shut down so you had to wait for it to cool down enough to restart. They were a Franklin made design that began in 1967 and was modified in the 70's to a better suspension system and somewhat smaller capacity. These were just poorly and cheaply designed from the beginning and did not last too long. The actual cabinet had the consistency of a beer can and you could easily bend the lid or cabinet parts. They weren't that popular even though they were sold under different names. Bradford, Wizard Citation, Gibson, Kelvinator and probably several other names too. They sounded like a good idea, but were poorly conceived. As far as "loaner" washers, that went out some time ago. I know the local Montgomery Wards used to have a "loaner" machine back in the 60's & early 70's if they had a customer that insisted on it. A definite thing of the past though.

Gibson: Another brand under the sad umbrella of White Consolidated Industries. Bruce's description pretty much sums it all up.

I guess this is one of those times where looks can be deceiving. From the picture these machines look very well made and desirable .

Was there ever a time when WCI built quality washers or appliances ? I know the Kelvinator top mount fridge my parents bought in 1984 lasted only eight years. The shelf retainers on the doors broke as well as the freezer shelf with just normal use. That is when I realized I would never have anything made by WCI ever again.

It was so poorly designed that the butter compartment lid on the door could break off if you closed the door with it up. The sturdiest thing on that fridge was the chrome handles. Then we got the WP after that and the difference was night and day.
