Our church has several Kidde extinguishers, but they are commercial models with metal handles. They have inspection tags indicating date the inspector was there. |

I went online the day after the Kidde extinguisher recall hit the news and filled out the request form for a replacement.
The replacement arrived today. It is shorter and fatter than the old one so will no longer fit in my narrow cupboard where I stored the old one. I'll have to find a new place for it. I must say that Kidde certainly was fast and efficient in sending the replacement. A pre-paid FedEx return label comes in the box so it will be easy to return the old one. My old extinguisher was from the 1980's and the gauge showed a low charge. Now, I have a brand new, fully charged extinguisher that should last me the rest of my days. Good job, Kidde! |

I've had some Kidde extingushers with plastic handles. One I threw out last year because its pressure had dropped below minimum. And I recalled emptying it out before discarding wasn't easy, so it may have also had a valve issue. I probably have one or two more with plastic handles, I'll have to check. I recall looking at those plastic handles when I bought them and not being impressed by the plastic. Most of the ones I've bought in the last 10 years have the aluminum handles; those are apparently fine. |
