Apologies if this has been posted before, I did try a search and didn't find it.

A couple of years ago a friend sent me this link to an archive of K-Mart in-store music.  This is the background music that was produced to be played in the stores for shoppers.  This went on for many years.  The older ones have instrumental music mixed with in-store ads.  The newer ones are a bit more modern but still have music interspersed with ads.

I've linked my favorite one below which is one of the oldest from 1973.  It starts with an amazing K-Mart anthem!  I have to say Walmart and and Target today have nothing on K-Mart in the 1970s.  I don't hear anything like this when I walk through their doors.

"They give your dreams a helping hand, at K-Mart stores they understand!"

oh man, until you posted this, I forgot how many stores had a jingle or two....

even a phrase that tied into their stores.....

sad part, it sticks in your head.....

I think their main trademark was the 'Blue Light Special'...and ...'Attention KMart Shoppers!'

Our K-Mart

disappeared about 20 years ago. The original Wal-Mart turned into Academy and Wal-Mart leased a huge new facility to make a Super. K-Mart was tiny compared to that; it's now a Big Lots that's nasty with age.

I liked the original Kresge's that were in Houston. They seem to have lost something turning into K-Mart.

Our last local K-Mart store is closing in January. One already closed earlier this year. It makes me kinda sad, as many of the things I and my family have owned over the years were purchased at K-Mart.

Most of my Christmas decorations that I purchased this year were purchased at the closing K-Mart. I always loved their Christmas wares, even as a child.

Would love to step back in time to the early 90s, walk down the vacuum aisle, and place the box for a top-of-the-line Hoover Legacy or Concept One (or both!) in my cart.

I remember the "Tape-O-Thon" RR tape machines they used to use to play background music in the REAL old days!

I saw some of the music on YouTube. My Kmart is closing in January. The 25 year lease is up. I bought some things there last night. I probably hadn't bought anything there since Dec 2009! It sure brought back some memories. I got some Christmas lights- it was neat to see they still have Trim A Home and Kmart names on their decorations. That brought back memories too.

It was nice to see the place busier thsn usual and the parking lot crowded, too bad it's mostly because of the closing sales.

I think we need the sort of stuff stores used to play (& me to play it!) that I actually listen to now...

like Carl Thom's

Harmony House?
I know someone who bought over 4,000 long play vinyl albums from his stores, and still has every single one.
